I came to America when I was 10 years old. At the age of 15, I started training in martial arts. By the time I turned 18, I was running a Taekwondo studio. In 1994, I became the head instructor for UCLA Taekwondo program and successfully ran the program for 4 years.
During this time I completed my undergraduate studies and went on to obtain a Masters of Science degree in Physiological Science at UCLA. After this I moved to San Diego for medical school and decided to pursue Internal Medicine upon graduation.
During this time, I focused my research on diabetes and obesity. After reviewing the scientific literature on numerous weight-loss diets out there, I designed a 3-step weight-loss program that I tested in a 6 month trial. The results were very promising. During this time, I became very interested in the role of nutrition, metabolism and kidney disease.
I decided to pursue a fellowship in Nephrology at UCLA. Currently, I work as a fulltime Internal Medicine/Nephrology physician and in my spare time do consulting for nutrition and fitness magazines and websites.
