I am a WNBF Figure and Fit Body Pro and earned pro status in 2010. I have always been interested in staying fit and being in shape. When I was in grade school, I was the only girl who made the 100s club, which was a test in gym class which consisted of push-ups, sit-ups, and running a 600-yard dash. I trained for it all summer, and it gave me a real sense of accomplishment to be able to do something that none of the other girls in the class could do.
By the time I was in college, I was working out with VHS videos and seemed to progress to the next level fairly quickly. At the time, I was thin and never considered the notion that I had the potential to build up my strength and put on a considerable amount of muscle. Within a few years, I surpassed everything I thought was physically possible.
I started training hours each day and told my family that my plans were to become a world class athlete. Shortly after, I signed up to take six Taekwondo classes per week. I competed in both sparring and board-breaking contests. I always received the gold or silver metal. I earned my black belt in 2005. I decided to compete in a figure competition and continued to compete in shows for the past eight years, the last three as a pro.
Throughout my years in sports, I accomplished more than mere physical challenges. I learned how to eat properly and know the difference between healthy and unhealthy food choices. I have compiled dozens of recipes that are void of MSG, artificial sweeteners, and trans fats. I also have opportunities to motivate others to live a healthy lifestyle by sharing some of my personal stories, struggles, and triumphs.
