Jon-Erik Kawamoto, CSCS, CEP

Background

Jon-Erik Kawamoto is a strength and conditioning specialist, personal trainer, and owner of JKConditioning in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Since taking his first client in 2005, he has helped many achieve higher levels of fitness and athletic performance. Although Kawamoto has worked with professional athletes, the bulk of his clients come to him with minimal workout or gym experience.

Kawamoto received his master's degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Physiology at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. At MUN, he was a teaching assistant for several undergraduate courses and also taught an introduction to strength and conditioning course as a sessional instructor in his first semester.

In addition to coaching and personal training, Kawamoto is an established freelance fitness writer. He has authored over 125 articles in popular fitness magazines and websites such as Men's Fitness, Muscle and Fitness, MuscleMag, Inside Fitness, Oxygen, Runner's World, Canadian Running, Running Times, Competitor.com, Schwarzenegger.com, Bodybuilding.com, T-Nation.com, and Livestrong.com. Kawamoto's athletic background includes competing in track and field, cross-country, and road running. He competed for a total of nine years and has 15:13 and 32:15 bests in the road 5km and 10km respectively. With his experience as a distance runner, he gravitates toward strength training endurance athletes, particularly runners of all levels, hence his regular contributions to several running publications.
