Why I Decided to Transform

I always hated sports and loved eating when I was young. The eating, paired with a slow metabolism, caused me to gain weight early in life. I was never in shape to play with the kids in my neighborhood, so I turned to video games, television, and more food. This continued until summer 2009 when I decided to change my life.

Big and muscular comic book heroes, particularly those from the Dragon Ball Anime, always fascinated me. I told myself that one day I would look like those guys. That same day, I changed into gym shorts and left my house for the school gym to work out.

How I Accomplished My Goals

I remember returning to high school after summer break. I lost nearly 40 pounds in 10 weeks and people asked me how I lost weight so quickly. Some gasped when they saw me, looking at one another in disbelief; girls who never noticed me before started talking to me and showed interest in my personality.

That was one of the best days of my life. It motivated me to keep going. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I fell in love with the bodybuilding lifestyle that allowed me to change my physique.

Diet Plan that Guided My Transformation

My diet is much the same whether I cut or bulk. I'm a firm believer in clean bulking and my diet is kind of a hybrid that allows me to stay lean while gaining muscle. Whenever I'm cutting, I increase my cardio from 30 to 60 minutes.

Training Regimen that Kept Me on Track

I rarely perform fewer than 10 reps on my exercises. I always want to feel my muscles work when I train and get a full contraction. When I'm building muscle, my rest will be no more than 45-90 seconds.

However, when I'm cutting, my rest is never more than 30 seconds on any exercise except for deadlift, which can be up to one minute.

The diet was and still is the hardest part for me. I eventually fell in love with training. I have a slow metabolism, so I can only have one cheat meal per month without it disrupting my goals. You've got to do what you got to do.

My Future Fitness Plans

Given that I'm currently satisfied with my muscle mass, I'm planning on channeling my focus toward a diet and workout regimen that will help me get leaner and meaner. Once I do that, I'm planning to compete.

Suggestions for Aspiring Transformers

Be patient with yourself. You'll make mistakes here and there, but those missteps help you achieve your goals through trial and error. Get to know your body, work hard, eat well, and get the proper rest to recover. But most of all, never forget what you really want, what makes you happy.
