How Did You Get Started?

I grew up in the country and when I was a kid I was always one of the smallest kids in my class...I got sick of being the smallest kid in my class so I started lifting weights with my dad in our garage. I noticed that being short and having short arms and legs actually helped me put on mass. After being urged by many people to "get on stage" in a bodybuilding contest, I did my first show in 1994 (the Southern Indiana BB contest in Evansville Indiana) and placed 3rd as a light-weight. That's when I got the competitive bug.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I train 5-6 days a week. I train each body part once a week (except for calves and abs, I train them 2-3 times a week), unless I am doing cardio at the end of my workout, I generally am not training any longer than 45-55 minutes a day.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I have the best bodybuilding nutritionist in the state of Indiana, my great friend (and former Mr. Indiana) Gary Dean. He tailors everything specifically for me. My body seems to respond better with higher protein, moderate fats and moderate to low carbs. Of course my diet changes weekly (according to Gary) as I get ready for a show.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I think glutamine is a must for every serious bodybuilder. I also think every athlete should take a daily multi-vitamin and if you are competing and trying to bring your body-fat to an all time low, Fat Burners are a great tool.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love to see the physical changes I (or anyone) can make through hard work and discipline, I also have to admit, I love the recognition and I also love the ability to inspire someone to start working out and getting in shape.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I have taken 2 years off from competing...but not from training hard. I plan on competing once again in the spring and summer of 2004 (both locally in the mid-west and Nationally). These last 2 years have allowed me to put on quite a bit of size (my days of competing as a bantam-weight are over). And, like I said above, I love recognition so it would be great this year if I could get my picture in a few fitness magazines.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Ask questions of those more experienced or more knowledgeable than you, if I do not know something or how to do something (from dieting to supplementation) I always try to find someone who knows or is experienced and go to them for their knowledge. I think too many bodybuilders let their egos get in the way when it comes to asking for help or advice.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Well, me being of short stature (5' 4"), I definitely have to say my 3 favorite bodybuilders are Lee Labrada, Lee Priest and Flavio Baccianini. Of the 3, I have met Flavio and Lee Labrada and they both are super nice and extremely professional gentleman (I am sure Lee Priest would be a blast to meet also.)
