How Did You Get Started?

I got started in 1992 after 16 years of success in Powerlifting. When Powerlifting started dying in the late 80’s here in Boise Idaho, I turned to other sports to be competitive. I still had this desire to compete one-on-one so I finally turned to Bodybuilding. I soon learned how to adapt my power training techniques with bodybuilding routines to give me a physique with balance, which now I’m hooked on the sport.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I have had the best results with a split routine of three to four days per week training chest and triceps, then back and biceps & then shoulders and legs. Sometimes I train shoulders one day then legs another, which can bring the workouts to four days. When I want to gain strength and burn body fat quickly I do drop set routines that pushes me past my sticking point. And of course I have special routines a few weeks before a contest that keeps my size and burns bodyfat.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

Creatine Monohydrate has been one of the supplements that have allowed me to really increase my strength and stamina. With the great workouts I get with Creatine I make sure I’m taking a protein supplement to build the muscle back, many people forget this advice. To allow my body to rebuild I use Ionic Whey Protein powder, amino acids and a good multi vitamin. Now that I’m 40, I’m taking DHEA to increase my testosterone levels and retain my youth.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

The reason why I love Bodybuilding is that it gives a person the ability to improve themselves in many ways. Not just the physical gain, but also the physiological gain. It raises self-esteem, makes you aware of your nutritional needs through education and prepares you for a hard structured workout. The thought process that goes into the whole picture is very detailed. The final outcome is a great physique along with a strong mental attitude towards life in general.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

Now that I turned 40 I’m going to compete in the Masters Class at the Northwestern Natural Championships held here in Boise, Idaho. Information is at www.club-natural.com. I then would like to go on to Sacramento in August and then call it a year. I plan on competing through out my 40’s and possibly go to Nationals. I really enjoy competing in the Couples Class since it takes the competition out of the competition and puts the fun back into it. As a Natural Bodybuilder I’m not going to increase my size much so will keep working on the quality of my muscles and keep my symmetry.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Set realistic goals and get with a certified trainer even if it’s just to get you started so you start on the correct path. Educate yourself with supplements and make fitness your lifestyle. Believe me, it will help you in the long run. At 40 I’m still doing everything I did in my 20’s and my girlfriend still keeps running from me. Stay Natural!
