Question and Answer
Q. Why do we let ourselves gain too much fat?
A. We often let ourselves gain too much fat because of a lack of discipline. Sometimes there is a compulsion too strong to resist which makes us gorge ourselves with junk. Other times there is a lack of desire, which may stem from low self-esteem.
Q. Many people say we need motivation to lose weight. Does this mean a negative motivation?
A. Sometimes a negative motivation like an inappropriate comment, can be a good motivator. This is because some people are so set in their ways, they might not change without a drastic comment. We all do know a more positive approach is better!
Q. Is exercise a great start?
A. Yes, exercise is a great start, unless you are just too overweight and exercise could be life threatening. Most of us though can safely start an exercise program.
Q. Is cardiovascular or resistance training a better exercise better?
A. Both are wonderful, and can be of great benefit to almost anyone.
Q. Should a beginner try to exercise on his/her own without the assistance from someone more knowledgeable?
A. I do not think this would be wise. Many people try this and either become overtrained, frustrated, or physically injured. Everyone can benefit from someone such as a fitness trainer, a certified personal trainer, or just someone with a lot of experience in fitness.
Q. Some people who have tried resistance training (lifting weights) to lose weight, have actually gained more weight. Why?
A. The reason for this is muscle weighs more than fat. People who start to lift weights will gain some weight in the beginning. This is healthy weight. It is muscle which will in turn burn fat.
Many people get worried when the scales rise and lose patience. Losing patience will only slow the fat burning process. Soon after that weight is gained, the fat will burn away. A medium is found!
