Ben Weider, who over 50 years ago Founded the International Federation of Bodybuilders (IFBB) suddenly passed away on Friday October 17th at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. Ben's enthusiasm and interest was as great three weeks ago at the 2008 Mr. Olympia as it was throughout his 50 years as the Founding President of the IFBB, thus legitimizing the sport of bodybuilding to over 170 worldwide sanctions.

In 2006 both Ben and his older brother Joe Weider wrote the encompassing autobiography "Brothers of Iron: Building the Weider Empire." The book allows an inspiring opportunity to follow the two pioneers go from poverty within the great depression, to forging official bodybuilding recognition by the International Olympic Committee.
Thank you Ben for your sincere faith and success thus elevating the recognition of bodybuilding as a legitimate sport Ben is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Hugette Derouin, brother Joe Weider, sister Freda Yankofsky, sons Eric, Louis and Mark, and grandchildren Joeseph and Vanessa.
The memorial service will be held on Monday October 20th, 1:00 pm at the Papermans and Sons funeral home in Montreal. Contributions in his memory are to be made to the Ben Weider Jewish Community Center.
