How Did You Get Started?

I was always the skinny girl. Super athletic, tons of talent, well rounded but very unhealthy. I knew I had a fast metabolism and I took total advantage of it. But once I took my measurements at home with a fat analyzer, it turned out I was 25% body fat. I went into polar shock.

I was a tremendous athlete and I honestly had never thought of working out. I used to watch my father work out and imagine the power and strength and confidence you could gain from it. I was just too scared. I thought I would look awkward or gain even more weight. I also thought I didn't actually need too.

I picked up a Muscle and Fitness Hers magazine one day out of curiosity and Ava Cowan was on the front. She was ripped and beautiful as well. I found out I didn't have to sacrifice my "looks" for my health. So I cut myself off cold turkey from all processed foods, fast food, and soda. I dropped 13 pounds and cut 15% body fat.

I finally picked up a set of weights and was amazed at my strength! The veins in my arms, my biceps popping out, everything looked incredible! It was my escape for a few hours, and it finally gave me the confidence that I never had!

Since then a year later I've gained 10lbs of muscle and have a continuous track of 8-10% body fat. I train harder and smarter. I use supplements and whey protein well. I've learned the best from my father who is almost 51 years of age and can still bench 315 lbs.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

Being an athlete in high school my body is used to at least 2 hours of harsh physical activity, 5 days a week. It's best for my body to use this type of split:

Day 1: Cardio Only
Day 2: Upper Body
Day 3: Cardio Only
Day 4: Legs
Day 5: Cardio Only
Day 6: Upper Body/Cardio
Day 7: Rest

Day 8: Cardio/Legs

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

It gives me the confidence and esteem I never had. I enjoy keeping my athleticism alive. Now that I've graduated, I left gymnastics, track, and all my other sports behind. It fills a hole in my heart. Also my dad and I have always been so close and I want to not only make him proud, but also gain a sense of self respect. My determination, obsession with perfection and my courage to try new things has risen over the past year. For once I'm truly happy with how I look and who I am.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

First and for most, my Dad is whom really pushes me to be healthy and stay healthy. The fact that I see him compete in sports with guys half his age amazes me. His strength is outstanding for a man of 50 years. I look up to him, my whole life he was able to play sports with me and take me outside and be active. Now we lift weights together. I want to be able to show my kids the same example some day.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

I always worked hard when I had too, but I had a severe lazy side. I did everything half way and at the last second. I had determination when I wanted it, but it took me a while to grow up. I wanted to find my niche, and make an accomplishment for once in my life. The harder I worked, the better I felt.

Not just on the outside but on the inside I was truly proud of myself. Bodybuilding made me pull out characteristics I never knew I had, such as pride, discipline, work ethic, confidence, determination and maturity. I became the independent, reliable person I always wanted to be.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I plan to continue bodybuilding and competing till I can't do it anymore. I have plans to eventually attain my pro card, and compete in the IFBB and many other associations. I want to be a fitness model, and role model for others. My main goal is to win Natural Figure Olympia by age 28!

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Do it for yourself! There is no one on this Earth that deserves to be happy and healthy as much as you! Anyone and everyone can do it if they put the effort in. You will come out a changed person, more than just your looks. Why not strive for perfection?
