I've always run and lifted light weights. In May 2010, I was approached by a promoter of an NGA show. He told me I needed to compete in the bikini model division at his show. At first, I looked at him like he was crazy and went about my way. The second time he approached me, I thought about it and gave in.
He told me to cut out Diet Coke (which was my favorite at the time) and eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. I made it onstage in July 2010 and placed second. I realized this might be something for me.
I started reading about clean eating and created a meal plan that worked for me. I trained five days a week at the gym, lifting as heavy as possible, and started seeing results quickly. My goal was to go back to the same show and win. In July 2011, I did just that. I've trained even harder, cleaned up my diet more, and have competed in two shows since then. My last show was June 2012, and I walked away with another win.
My passion for fitness derived from a strong desire to be in shape. It wasn't until I competed for the first time that I realized what lifting heavy weights and eating clean could do my body. It allowed me to gain self confidence that I didn't have in the past.
My husband gives me the motivation to get onstage and compete. His support allows me to have gym time and work around the family schedule to make it happen.
Knowing I'm going onstage to have my body evaluated by a panel of judges gives me a strong desire to be the best I can be.
I love looking through magazines. I look at other competitors and read about their desires to create the best body. I look at their pictures, workout plans, and quotes, which puts me on track. I dig very deep and think about what I want to accomplish. When I think of a long-term goal, I create the motivation needed hit the gym and avoid cheat meals.
I plan to compete in several shows every year, and push to win. I want to create a blog for other moms who want to be the best they can physically and mentally.
Eating clean is the core to your success. Stay true to your diet and everything will fall into place. Remember: it's a lifestyle change, not a fad.
Jamie Eason. She and I are the same height and have comparable body types. She has overcome many obstacles in her life and stays true to who she is and what she believes in.
I relied on Bodybuilding.com for many things. I have the app downloaded on my phone so I always have a way to look up exercises and incorporate them into my daily plan. I use the site for competitor articles, stories, and results. I bookmarked many recipes that I use on a daily basis. I order my supplements monthly from the Store.
