Q

How did your fitness journey begin?

My journey into fitness began years ago, but I officially started to make progress and became knowledgeable about training and dieting in January 2013. I enjoyed sports when I was young and was in good shape, but as I grew older, sports ended and adult life took over. I gained weight and purchased bigger clothing, which triggered a force inside me to get back into the gym. I started emailing, calling and booking consultations with trainers, and checked out different gyms, but I was still unmotivated and unexcited.

A year later, I thought back to the sports I played and how great it was to feel comfortable in a bikini. At that point, I gained 25 pounds and missed the compliments from others about my athleticism and fit body. The next day, I got up and walked into my tanning salon in Red Deer, Alberta, where I knew the owner trained people for competitions. I told him I wanted to be part of a program that would push me to the extreme and gain a competitive edge again. He told me about a training program for a bikini competition and I accepted the offer. We took the necessary steps to prepare for competition and I've trained hard since.

"My lifts change weekly, which forces me to improve and gain muscle and strength."

How did your passion for fitness emerge?

When I left the junk food, boozing lifestyle behind, I surrounded myself with encouraging fitness people. I was introduced to a world filled with positivity, healthy benefits, and opportunity. The more I gain and learn, the more I push myself to take nutritional college courses to become a trainer.

What/Who motivates you to live a healthy lifestyle?

I love looking through magazines or Instagram to see women in incredible shape. It motivates me daily to know if I continue I will look like them. If I slack, I'll never reach that goal.

Where did you go for inspiration?

When I started training, I listened to other girls who are my trainer's clients. They had great stories and experiences about the national level and offered great advice.

What are your future fitness plans?

I plan to take my body to a new level, get in the best shape of my life, and feel comfortable in anything. I want to keep competing, get my face out there, and bury myself in competitions to push myself and win.

What is the most important fitness tip?

Never give up on your dreams. If you set your mind to it, you will achieve it. Stay positive and always look at the positive. Invest in your body like you would a car. Your body isn't a waste bin, so don't treat it that way. Fuel it to stay healthy, energetic, and happy.

Who is your favorite fitness competitor?

Stephanie Sheehan. She trains with my trainer and has been the most positive person on my journey. She constantly finds ways to improve recipes or burn fat. She's energetic and willing to help.

How did Bodybuilding.com help you reach your goals?

Bodybuilding.com helps me see how others reach their goals and what supplements work for me. It also motivates and keeps me in the loop for all my fitness needs.
