Q
How did your fitness journey begin?

I went to my first fitness competition to support a friend at age 17. Every competitor who stepped onstage amazed me. I loved watching and observing the different body types. I knew right away it was something I would do one day. As soon as I graduated from high school, I started training. Two years later, I started prepping for my first show.

I knew I needed help in the beginning. I was going to college at the time and couldn't afford a trainer or nutrition advice, so I started reading and doing lots of research. When the show came around, I felt ready. I was a new person; healthy and fit. It was such an accomplishment for me. I ended up placing third out of 12 girls. I knew it was only the beginning for me. I couldn't wait to step onstage again.

How did your passion for fitness emerge?

I always had a passion for fitness, but it grows stronger as I grow stronger. Fitness isn't just about being in shape. It's also a mind game. Bodybuilding is a selfish sport and if you want to do it right you have to sacrifice a bit. It will change you. It changed me for the better. My passion for the sport is hard to explain. I live for it.

What/Who motivates you to live a healthy lifestyle?

I motivate myself every time I make an effort to get up, prepare my meals, and bust ass in the gym to live healthy. If I have to choose one person who I truly look up to, it has to be Jamie Eason. Her work ethic is unbelievable and she stays humble and kind, which I admire.

Where did you go for inspiration?

I go to my iPod for inspiration. Music helps me though a lot, especially in the gym. All I have to do is put on a song I love and my mood changes 100 percent.

What are your future fitness plans?

I hope to step onto a pro stage one day. I'll get there someday. I just have to keep staying positive and healthy.

What is the most important fitness tip?

Bikini competitors should work hard, smile, eat right, and drink water. The only person you need to beat is the person you were before.

Who is your favorite fitness competitor?

My boyfriend. He's so much fun to watch when he's onstage. He just shines. He's competing with me in April and I can't wait.

How did Bodybuilding.com help you reach your goals?

I love receiving emails from Bodybuilding.com. The articles help me in many ways from exercise to dieting.
