How Did You Get Started?
I got started with weights when I was 11 years old; after watching every Arnold movie there was. I have always been involved in sports, but it wasn't until college when a kid in the weight room approached me and said I had potential. I thought "I don't wanna be that big." But soon after hanging with a group of guys I fell in love with the whole lifestyle and the positive attention it brought.
All the way from the food to the hard core training, and of course the education. It also helped that I studied exercise science at Illinois State University, which brought even more interest into the sport. Now after college I have done three shows - The Illinois State show twice and the Wisconsin State. I finished third as a light-heavyweight, in 2005 at the Illinois. I then said I will do whatever it takes to win the next year... I ended up getting first at the Wisconsin State and first at the Illinois State two weeks later in the light-heavyweight class.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I have always seen the best results from training 1 body part per week. There is always a mix of volume and intensity.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
A low carb diet plan and training my body to only use one or two kinds of carb sources throughout the diet. Spiking carbs and depleting is the method, along with a white meat only diet. Fats run a bit high, but they tend to be unsaturated.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Bodybuilding gives me a sense of who I am and separates me from the average joe. I always wanted to be different and have a goal to strive for that didn't include work or things of that nature. I have the genetics for this so I want to just maximize what I have.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I want to compete in the Jr. Nationals in 2007 because it is about 20 minutes from me and see how I favor. Then I could do the USA's or Nationals if I place high.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
I would say to the other people that don't be in a hurry. This takes time and look at every workout as one step closer. Also there are a lot of jealous people who want to talk behind your back, or say that it is a bad look. They don't understand you, and never will so all you need to know is it makes you happy to do what you do and stay focused at the lifestyle. When you feel you are losing it or life throws a curveball at you, treat that situation like a workout and do whatever it takes to get past it.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
Jay cutler is my favorite, because I feel like I have a body type similar to his but obviously smaller. He is a business man as am I, in fact, I have just opened a successful personal training business called PT 101 located in Roselle IL. Jay has an amazing work ethic and believes that he can be the best. Some people were calling me mini jay at the Illinois show I did which was also a fun thing.
