How Did You Get Started?

How Did You Get Started?

I've been pretty small my whole life, never weighing over 100lbs until I was 23yrs old. I've always played sports and I love the snow! I've been in the gym on and off since I was 23 yrs old. Nearly 3 yrs ago I blew out my knee skiing, I was in good condition at the time so my recovery was quick but it still took a year for my leg to get back to full strength. I was in an abusive relationship and my life was out of control I had very little confidence in myself.

Two years ago I meet my trainer Kevin Creeden, shortly after I started training with Kevin I found strength in myself not only in my body but also in my mind, I ended my abusive relationship and began to focus on my body. In March of 2005 he talked me into attending the Alaska State Body Building and Figure Show, I was very excited and it sprung some interest inside me. Kevin and I talked about someday competing in a show; he thought that I had great potential. So we took some trips to Washington and attended Emerald Cup 2005 and Iron Man 2005, both shows I sat in the audience mesmerized by all the beautiful women, the desire grew more and more inside me with each show to be one those women.

At the Iron Man show I strolled over to Merry Christine's booth and purchased my first suits. I was very excited! We had set our goals; I was going to compete in October of 2005, however Kevin felt I was not ready so I signed up to compete in November the 2005 Northwest Show. This gave me an additional 4 weeks to get ready for the show. I took 2nd place in my class and was very excited to have gotten on the stage. Since then I have competed in the 2006 Alaska State show placing 2nd in my class, 2006 Emerald Cup placing 11th, 2006 Northern Classic placing 3rd, and 2006 Iron Man placing 1st!!!! This is all such a great accomplishment and I am so proud of where I am today.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

All year long I try to weight train 6 days a week. In the off season I try to do 45 minutes of cardio a day on the stair climber, leading up to a how I may jump my cardio up to 2 hours a day. I train abs every other day with a circuit of 6 exercises. In the winter I try to make it snowboarding 2 full days a week, this great for my core, balance and legs. Our gym just got a new Quad master in so I'm sure I'll be spending a lot of time on that thru this year.

Below is a sample of my weight training program, I do at least one warm up set before I start into my working weight and stretch between each set. This year I am working on putting more size on my upper body and maintaining my legs, so I've increased my weight and dropped my reps on all my upper body the only exception being when I use any cable machines, I have kept my weights and reps high for both my leg workouts. I also utilize super setting and giant sets from time to time to change things up.

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I eat every 2-3 hours - up until last year I was mainly vegetarian so meat is something new to diet. My first 2 meals of every day are 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal, 2 scoops protein powder and 1/4 cup egg substitute. Because of my work I eat very light during the day salads, almond butter or mixed nuts, Ezekiel bread with turkey meat or almond butter and sugar free jelly, cottage cheese, fresh energy protein bars, protein shakes, eggs, or dry whole wheat cereal.

I eat omelets for most dinners adding different vegetables and meats. I've learned to love a good steak and turkey. In the off season I drink a ton of milk either 1% or soy milk. In the winter I make a lot of bean and vegetable soups. I still have not eaten fish or chicken and really have no desire for either of them. My diet is generally the same year round, I cook whole wheat and sugar free treats to satisfy my sweet tooth.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I would have to say Sci-fit Kre-Alkalyn - I feel like I can move more weight around using this creatine without getting totally bloated.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love knowing that what I have accomplished is something that no one can give me; it's something I have worked for! The competitions are great because I get to meet more and more people with goals similar to mine - in the world it is hard to meet people who understand the discipline and time it takes to walk across that stage. I love the fellow competitors, the staff promoters, the audience, the judges; for all the energy and support that they all offer.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I plan to continue competing... I want to start working towards broadening my horizons into fitness because I love the routines and all the energy they share with the crowd.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Train hard and believe in yourself and you will succeed.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

I'm not really sure. I've met quite a few and they are all very nice and have all worked very hard to be where they are today. I look at them all and just work hard so someday, maybe I'll be as good as them.
