How Did You Get Started?

I was best described as a cardio or elliptical girl. In university, I lived in the "athletes residence" so it was only natural for me to grab a gym pass and head on over with floor mates. I would sometimes follow guys around the gym and use the weight machines they had just used but more often than not I'd be on the elliptical or doing abs.

In the winter of 2008/2009 I was going downstairs in my condo elevator for a swim and turned around in the mirror to check out my backside. I was shocked to see cellulite deposits on the backs of my thighs and love handles hanging over my swimsuit. So I purchased all the fitness magazines out on newsstands, checked out training videos and articles on, and taught myself how to change my fitness regime and nutrition around. I gave myself a year to get ready for a fitness competition and competed 5 times that year. After that I was hooked. I love competing for that goal to stay in shape and challenge myself.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

The past few months I've experimented with blood volume training and switching it up from lifting weights only 3x a week to sometimes 5x a week. I lift in the morning and do cardio in the evenings after work when it's less busy.

Day 2: HIIT Cardio/Abs
Day 3: Back/Chest
Day 4: Cardio/Abs

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I'm a huge fan of clean eating and love experimenting with recipes. Although competition meal plans can get quite strict I still allow myself treats and clean eating variety.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love the energy that it gives me to take on whatever I have going on during my day. I love how healthy I feel. I love that I no longer suffer from food comas during the afternoon or mood swings due to unhealthy eating habits. I love that I feel stronger and successful when I can complete goals on a daily basis. I also love how it can motivate others and how we all share in inspiring each other.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

When I receive a Facebook message or @ reply on Twitter about how my pictures on Facebook or status updates or tweets have inspired someone to do something about their health and fitness I get goose bumps and pure joy. It's an even better feeling than stepping on stage during a competition.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

It may have started out as a vanity reason of wanting to get rid of cellulite but after doing endless hours of research and learning about the health benefits and just how I feel about myself is a constant push to achieve my goals. I'm a big to do list person so being able to cross things off my goal list is very rewarding.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

One of my 2011 goals was to place top 10 in a WBFF Bikini Diva competition. I achieved that goal in April by placing third in the Bikini Tall Division at the WBFF Quebec show. I would eventually like to become a WBFF Bikini Pro.

I have recently signed with Magnum Neutraceuticals and am excited to partner with a great company that believes in me and supports my future fitness goals and plans.

I have just recently been certified with my personal training qualifications and want to start teaching a boot camp for women. I also just completed my level 1 spinning instructor certification so I can't wait to get into a spin studio and start teaching as well.

I have been exploring my skills as a writer this year and was named the Fitness Editor for an online site called The Broken Heel Diaries. I'd love to continue writing and offering great articles to others.

Once a month I also film a video called Mid Month Motivation with my co-host Eva Redpath. We provide fitness and nutrition tips as well as a product review for viewers and want to keep providing great content.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Do as much research as possible. Get more than one opinion so you can be sure you are doing things the right way. And finally, never give up. Set your goals and strive for them. It's may seem easy to put that on paper but it's true. My first few competitions I was nowhere near as in shape as I am now but I never gave up. I enjoyed my time on stage for what it was and am never truly focused on winning but the overall experience.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Jamie Eason has always been a fitness role model for me. Her drive is motivating and inspiring. She's always so approachable and takes time for her fans. She's one of the reasons I always answer people's messages when they ask me questions about competing because she always strives to do the same.

Ava Cowan has an amazing physique. Watching her miniseries on Gaspari's website was inspiring and gave me great ideas for new workout ideas.

Last but not least, Chady Dunmore who took the competition world by storm in 2010 showed me a new confidence and humility when approaching competing.

What Features Do You Use On

Watching training videos taught me proper form when I was first starting out and now gives me new ideas to always keep my workouts fresh so I don't plateau.

BodySpace provides an amazing community of like minded people who are always there to support and inspire.
