How Did You Get Started?

Being involved in high school athletics, I had tinkered around with weights here and there. When I went to college, I became more involved with the weightlifting component of bodybuilding. When I thought I had built up a pretty good physique, I entered my first contest and got toasted.

However, I discovered two important things. First, there's a lot more to bodybuilding than just lifting weights. Second, I knew that I had found something that appealed to my competitive nature like nothing before. The desire to become the best that I can be is what keeps me motivated and making gains. After 1 year of serious training and dedication, I was able to compete again and win my weight class in two contests.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

My general workout plan can be characterized by high intensity, few sets, and long recovery periods. I work out 4-5 times per week, hitting every body part once per week. As it gets close to contest time, I may throw some extra working sets and hit my abs and calves more often. I used to do at least 15-20 sets per body part. After my first contest I adopted the motto "Less is more" and have been able to completely transform my body.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

By far, N-Large 2 by Prolab has helped me more than any supplement. I have a relatively fast metabolism and this stuff is packed full carbs and protein that I need. I even drank it post workout while I was dieting. This helped me maintain size, strength and fullness while I was dieting.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

Of course I love bodybuilding for the competitive aspect. But more than that I love bodybuilding because of the confidence, wisdom, and strength you attain while striving to improve your physique. For me, bodybuilding is a great stress reliever and helps me live a very healthy and balanced lifestyle.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

Someday I would like to compete at a national level. I want to belong to the elite of the sport. My immediate goal is to win an overall title at the next contest I do. Right now I have bulked up to a solid 260 with abs. I am paying special attention to bringing up my weak points. I will compete again in the summer of 2004.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Learn more! Read a muscle magazine or visit a web site. Anything! So many people ask me why they have not made progress for long time. Sometimes the answers are so simple and could be picked up at any magazine stand. Don't assume that all bodybuilding knowledge is intuitive. Don't be afraid to benefit from the wealth of knowledge out there. Some common mistakes I see that could be avoided by learning more are not eating enough, training too much, not training hard enough, and drinking too much alcohol.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

My favorite bodybuilders are Arnold, Kevin Levrone, Flex Wheeler, and Skip LaCour.
