The 22nd annual Flint/Mid-Michigan Natural was held at the University of Michigan Theater in Flint, Michigan on April 29th. This was a NPC drug tested event. The show featured Bodybuilding, Fitness, and Figure competitors. The top five from each division took home beautiful swords.
The Competition:
The overall winners in the local division received a one year membership from the sponsor Hurley Health and Fitness. Every competitor was given a contest t-shirt from sponsor Bodybuilding.com, and an 8 X 10 competition photo. There were 113 competitors competing in a sold out standing room only crowd.
With Melissa Frabbiele as the masters of ceremony the show ran very smooth. Both the competitors and the audience enjoyed themselves. This was a quality event with many of the competitors returning after competing in the event in previous years.
Genesys Athletic Club earned the team award for having the largest number of competitors entered in the local event. Genesys had over 20 beautiful ladies all dressed in matching purple warm up suits.
They made quite an impression when they entered the event together in the morning. Other gyms competing for the local award were, The Rock Fitness Center, The Source, Powerhouse Gym Flint, The Butcher's Health and Fitness, Fenton Fitness, and Hurley Health & Fitness Center.
Division Winners:
- Mike O'Keefe took the 1st place for the bodybuilding teen division. Out of the three competitors he swept the votes.
- Carrie Walend took home the 1st place award for the master's women division. Like O'keefe the votes were unanimous.
- The grand masters men's winner was Harold Leeper, this division was open to men over 50. Leeper is no stranger to the stage having won both the local men's and the master's divisions in the past.
- The Master's men winner was Jeff Robinson. The master's division featured men between 40 and 49 years of age.
- The Local women's division featured competitors through out Genesee and Lapeer County. The winner was Marie Jones Watts.
- The Local men's division winner was Gary Gilliam.
The Mid-Michigan division featured men and women through out the United States with the majority being from Michigan.
- The lightweight winner was Carrie Walend.
- The winner of the Heavy weight division was Nancy Arnold.
- Carrie Walend took home the overall trophy.
- Open men bantamweight - Dave Braun.
- Open men lightweight - Israel Ocasio.
- Open men middleweight - Taggert Doll.
- Open men light-heavyweight - Kevin Vaughn II.
- Open men heavyweight - Eric Lowery.
- Taggert Doll took home the overall trophy.
Leslie Bonner won the fitness competition.
The figure division consisted of over 40 beautiful ladies, divided into open, masters (over 35), and grand masters (over 40). Sheri Bloomfield won the Grand Masters Figure and Jennifer Paul won the Masters Figure.
The open short class figure was won by Shanon Bennett and Jennifer Paul won the tall class, with Shanon Bennett taking the overall trophy. Championships showcased some of the best natural athletes in the state of Utah. It was held at Northridge High School in Layton, Utah on 22 April 2006.
