How Did You Get Started?

I always was a sporty girl.

I danced classic ballet, did figure skating and was an aerobics instructor in my hey-day. I played tennis, volleyball, badminton, swam, and skied and I still can do all that stuff. My problem was losing that last 10lbs. Typically my weight in the summer was 125lbs, and in winter 130lbs. Jogging, power yoga, and Pilates did nothing for me. Yes, they keep me in shape, flexible and in good health, but loosing those last 10lbs - no way for 30 years!

I started looking elsewhere, and found this website. It took me just 6 months to get off 12 lb. I am hooked on the pics, motivation, nutrition and workout samples. At first, I looked in fitness magazines, but tell you now they are too simple, no challenge for my body. Thank God I found a community of the real people with real goals and really nice bodies.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I work long hours in the medical office, therefore I cannot devote a lot of time for training. I try to be very efficient at every minute in the gym. For my genetics I have to exercise very intense or I do not get any results. I am not a big fan of big muscles. I train mostly slow twitch muscles.

Slow twitch muscles get developed during endurance types of exercise. This way of training does not give me a bulky shape, but lets me tone overall body muscles, avoid cellulite and give a lean look. This appeals mostly to women, but bulky men also should look at this way of training to add more power to their overall muscular potency.

I like to train 2-3 times a week, doing mostly endurance and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Warm up, short yoga and HIIT or boot camp training takes only 20 min. The shaping part takes only 40 min on any training day. I exercise fasted, meaning I workout after no food for 3-4hrs or first thing in the morning before breakfast. When my body has no carbs to burn, it burns all glycogen storage in the muscles in the first 30 min of training, and then after 30 min starts burning fat.

Cardio:

    HIIT cardio takes about 22-30 min on any training day. I set the treadmill at a 2.5 incline and walk 22 min, then run 5 min at 5.5ml/hr, then high speed at 9.3ml/hr for 30 sec then walk 4.3 ml/hr for 40 sec and back to 5.5ml/hr for 3 min. Repeat this cycle 6 times and I get really sweating!. Steady running does not make me sweat. In addition, the other benefit of HIIT is that fat burning continues not only next 2-3 hrs, but theoretically 48 hrs after training.

Day 1 And 2: Off

Day 3: High Intensity Plyometrics (HIP) + Legs, Shoulders, Chest, Abs

Day 4: Off

Day 5: Cardio Only

Day 6: Off

Day 7: Yoga or HIP + Legs, Chest, Back, Abs

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I eat little, not going to grow big, my protein intake average 50-70g a day. I count calories: for loosing weight: 1000 cal/day, for maintaining: 1300 cal/day, therefore, the addition of multivitamins is essential. Note: No food before morning Sunday exercise.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love Fitness/Bodybuilding because it gives me wonderful feeling of wellbeing, of the possibility to accomplish anything I set my mind to, confidence in my own look no matter what I wear from a bikini, to a fur coat to a ski suit. A fit person feels really healthy and is always ready for any kind of activity whether it's a ski vacation in the mountains, snorkeling in Cancun, dancing at the club or skating at the rink. All sorts of fun things are available to him or her. I consider it real freedom.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

I am a medical professional. I've seen how many people suffer from preventable diseases, so I really do not want to become part of this unhappy crowd. I'd rather be one of those who can be helpful to sick people. I want to stay fit and free for as long as possible. Modern medicine is advanced enough to prolong human life in any condition almost endlessly.

But the quality of life, this is the question. Who wants to spend years in the bed of nursing home? Not a nice prospective. To be fit, flexible and agile up to the end, this is much more fun.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

When I was in my 30's, people told me: wait until you're 40, then you'll see the difference. My 40's have come, but I did not feel different. When I was in my 40's, people told me: wait until you're 50, then you'll see the difference. My 50's have come, but I did not feel different. Presently, people tell me: when you're 60, then you will see the difference.

I am 56 now and I still feel great, better than in my 20's. I perform figure skating, skiing, swimming, running, boot camping, mountain climbing and heavy weight lifting. My joints are supple and flexible (I can do the splits). I have no idea what it means to get tired or have back pain or aching joints.

As a matter of fact, if great sex means something, I enjoy that too. My husband has no complaints and has never thought of cheating with younger women.

I chose all of these instead of going to see doctors, take medications, or waste time in hospitals. Isn't it a good reason to stay fit?

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I may want to go and compete some day. As long as age is no limitation, I can start at any time but I am too busy now.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

I want to say to other guys and gals: you shape yourself as good or as bad as you wish. It is personal choice, so be what you want to be. Never give up. If you fall once, just get back on your feet and be at your best.
