How Did You Get Started?

I was working as a Personal Trainer, and decided that I needed something to work towards. I had a friend who had done a show before and told me that I should try one. I decided to go for it! My first show I did all my training myself. I started researching diets, workouts, and reading everything I possibly could about competing. For my first show I decided a week out to enter it, and ended up getting first place. From then one I got the competition bug, and decided to get myself a trainer (Mindi O'Brien). Even though I knew what to do, I still needed that extra little push and some help with dieting close to the shows. I love every minute of my training, and love the competition.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

The best plan that has worked for me is a five-day split.

Arrow Breakup Of Sample Training Week:

I do 4 sets of each exercise doing 10-12 reps for upper body and 12-15 reps for lower body. I do five exercises for each body part. I change my exercises every two weeks, which keeps my body guessing. I also do 4 days of cardio for 30 mins. When getting ready for a show I do 45 mins cardio in the morning and 45 mins of cardio in the evening.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

Fitness is my life! I love to workout, train, and help other people achieve their goals. It gives me motivation in life to set goals for myself and to achieve them.

Being fit is not only how you look, but also about how you feel about yourself. Every time I train someone they leave feeling energized, confident, and happier. I think that fitness also gives you something structured in your life that you can always count on and look forward to.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I plan on competing in April 2008 in Fitness. I have done really well in Figure, but since I have a background in gymnastics I thought I would try it out. I am also going to do Provincials in London, Ontario, June 2008. I hope to make a career out of it and hopefully get some sponsors later on. I would also love to do some fitness modeling so I am working on getting a portfolio done. I know that it can take years to get my face out there and make the changes that I need to. It's all a work in progress and things can only get better from here.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

I think that it would be WILL POWER. One thing I found hardest to do in the beginning was not being able to take part in all the things I used to do, such as eating out with a group of friends. In the beginning my friends and family didn't understand what I was doing, they just thought I was starving myself and working out too much. After they came to some of my shows and saw what hard work went into it they started to be much more supportive.

Now I still go out for dinner, but make sure its somewhere I can something healthy. When traveling home my family always know and understands that I will always pack my own food. I think that was the hardest part about training was always having to plan ahead and have food on me at all times. I love in the Off-Season when I can have a cheat meal once a week, I think that it helps me mentally and fuels my workouts a little bit extra.
