How Did You Get Started?
I had been working out for a few years and wasn't really getting anywhere. I stuck with weight lifting classes at the gym because I was intimidated by the free weight section in the gym. I finally decided to hire my coach Erik Ledin (www.leanbodiesconsulting) to help me as I wasn't progressing on my own. I got over my fear of the weight section and I started to see some amazing changes in my body within the first few months with my trainer. I decided, thanks to a friend's encouragement, to compete in November 2006. My first show was the New Brunswick Physique and figure championships. I placed first in the tall class and to my surprise won overall.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
My lifting plans focus on compound movements. I also lift as heavy as I can and stick to lower reps. My cardio is a combination of steady state and HIIT.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
My nutrition plan developed by my coach is high in protein and lower in carbs. My protein comes from lean protein sources such as chicken, tuna and egg whites. I also use PVL whey protein powder. I include healthy fats in my diet such as natural peanut butter, EVOO, raw almonds and fish oils. My carb sources come from mostly brown rice, whole wheat pasta and sweet potatoes. I make sure to eat 5-6 meals per day.

Why Do You Love Fitness?
I love working out and watching the changes that my body goes through. I love pushing myself. I've done so many things I never thought I'd ever be able to do. I feel so much better physically and mentally when I'm working my body and eating healthy.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I plan on competing again in the future. I enjoyed my first show and met so many great people and would love to continue with the sport. Who knows- you may see me at the Canadian Nationals one day.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Fitness Competitors?
Try to relax and most importantly have fun! Don't waste your time stressing over everything. You've worked so hard for this day so enjoy it because before you know it will be over. Be happy with yourself and be proud of all of your hard work and dedication. Let your confidence shine through on stage.
If this is something you want to do- go for it! It requires a lot of hard work and dedication but anyone can do it! Don't worry about imperfections, we've all got them. Just work your hardest and remember that everyday counts and will bring you one step closer or one step further from your goals.
