How Did You Get Started?

I started bodybuilding after I saw a late, dear friend of mine training in a gym in Federal Way, Washington. I started training with him until he passed away in 2006.

The same year, after my second Emerald Cup contest, I start feeling chest discomfort and what is called palpitation in my chest. After seeing a cardiologist, I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. At that point, I gave up bodybuilding and just trained to stay healthy.

It wasn't until 2011 when the doctors cleared me to compete in bodybuilding again. After 8 months of bad advice and pushing my body 10 times beyond its limits, and after the Alaska State Championships, I had a heart attack that ended my bodybuilding career. As I lay in that hospital bed, I realized I still had a chance to compete after recovering.

I switched over to Men's Physique because bodybuilding was no longer an option for me anymore. That's when I saw IFBB Physique Pro Steve Cook and realized that this was how I wanted to look!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I do mostly endurance exercises now, ranging from boot camps, CrossFit with my instructor Alison Cherry at Alaska Fitness, spin classes, free weightlifting and circuit training. These classes and circuit training varies from day to day. I try not to do the same thing every day.

Day 1: Boot Camp Circuit
Day 2: CrossFit
  • CrossFit: 45 minutes
Day 3: Spin Class
  • Spin Class: 45 minutes
Day 4: Cardio Only
  • AM Cardio: 40-60 minutes
  • PM Cardio: 40-60 minutes
Day 5: Upper Body Circuit
Day 6: Cardio Only
  • AM Cardio: 40-60 minutes
  • PM Cardio: 40-60 minutes
Day 7: Off

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I am on the Wolfe4Life Training and nutrition plan. This plan goes in phases and my trainer switches every plan every 6 weeks as every "body" is different.

For example, Phase 2 of the W4L diet for me consists of:

Meal 1
Snack 1
Meal 2
Snack 2
Snack 3

Keep in mind this diet was made just for me; remember every "body" is different.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

BCAAs, fat burner, glutamine, creatine and protein have all been very good for me.

4 Times Daily
Morning & Evening
Pre & Post Workout
Post Workout

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

Fitness allows me to reach levels of success I never thought I could ever achieve, and allows me to reach people that have suffered life changing events like me. It lets them know you can fight, and overcome anything, even a heart attack.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

Pro bodybuilder Shawn Wolfe is my biggest motivation. Not just because he's a great bodybuilder but he's a great friend, trainer and man!

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

After having a heart attack, I decided I wouldn't let anything stop me from being a physique pro, so I got out of that hospital bed and 3 weeks later competed in my first physique show and won my class.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I will be in Washington State at the 2012 NPC Emerald Cup, then back to Alaska for the Heart of Alaska show for some unfinished business, then on to Nationals!

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Never...ever, let a disability keep you down, fight, fight till the last breathe, and if you fall short, remember you kept going when most would have quit.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Natural Pro Bodybuilder Shawn Wolfe and IFBB Pro Steve Cook.
