The whole world seems to be obsessed with finding a magic little pill that will stop all the unwanted fat from entering your body while making you more muscular at the same time. Meanwhile, the entire nutritional fitness industry is trying to capitalize on that idea and convince the American public that artificial supplementation is as good as or better than real food.
People spend billions of dollars every year on nutritional supplementation that promise to get people healthier and in much better shape. Let's set the record straight; real food is better than scientifically engineered foods, in 98% of all situations.
Every year the fitness industry hosts several premier events that include fitness expo presentations. These expos are typically lined with various supplementation companies that make ridiculous claims that are not substantiated by scientific research.

That Promise To Get People Healthier And In Much Better Shape.
Don't Be Fooled By False Claims
To start a supplementation company is much easier than most people think. You do not need to have a Ph.D. in nutrition, only a marketing strategy and a few thousand dollars start up cost. The fitness expos are full of companies who have just started up their product line and are presenting it to the general public.
Often times, the supplement companies will tell you that their products will make you bigger, stronger, and faster just to get you to shell out some cash and buy their product.
There are some supplement companies who do perform university-based studies to help them to improve their product line, but most do not. Other companies spend ridiculous amounts of money hiring individuals who do not use their product, but look good on the packaging or can be seen sitting in their expo both promoting the products.
Don't be fooled by high-end marketing companies. Ask to see their research and look for the name of a university that performed the study. Do not accept marketing material that is loaded with falsified information and is often stamped with the word "advertisement" located at the bottom or the top of the page.
Always consider that a large amount of money is spent promoting any supplementation available on the market. No one is putting out billions of dollars in advertising to promote eating real food. There are even lots of advertising for prepackaged and processed foods, such as cereal or restaurant food. Rarely will you ever see a commercial that is geared towards the organic and natural banana.
Real Versus Processed Foods
Real foods contain trace minerals that allow for that particular food to digest quickly and completely. Highly processed foods are often the culprits for overweight children and adults. More processed food must be taken in to provide the same nutritional benefit and satisfy the bodies need for various nutrients.
Individuals often take supplementation with their meal to provide additional enzymes, vitamins, and minerals, but they are not as effective as those that are naturally found in particular foods. The United States is at a record level for individuals who suffer from food allergies. This is often due to the case that those individuals are overeating highly processed food.
Think about it, breast milk verses artificial milk is our first form of supplemental food. Manufactures spent a great deal of time and money producing an artificial breast milk supplement. Research has clearly shown that infants who have a significant amount of breast milk from the mother have several advantages. Certain immune capabilities are passed from the mother directly to the child. You can't get that from artificial mother's milk.
Consider the individuals who do not have access to the highly processed supplemental foods available to most individuals in the United States. If you go to Australia for example, your ability to find supplementation is extremely limited.

Improvements Of Supplements
A box of protein bars purchased in a third world nation can be so expensive, and often times costs 5 to 7 times the amount considered by the manufacturer. For that and many other supply reasons, some countries do not utilize supplementation, yet these athletes can excel in various sporting arenas, even events as elite as the Olympics.
It is important to realize that a vitamin requires a co-enzyme and a primary enzyme to work inside of your body. That is why it is important to take any vitamins with food. If you do not, they are quickly filtered out through the kidneys and liver and are tossed away as waste.
It is no surprise that vitamins are very sensitive chemicals to heat, pressure, and humidity. Many of the improvements that have occurred over the years with respect to food and public health are directly related towards preparation and storage.
Athletic performance has been enhanced by several factors and the marketing of supplementation would have you believe that this is in direct relationship to their products. As I have said before, several athletes have done very well and even won gold medals without the use of supplementation.
The hundred meter/yard dash has been around for thousands of years and modern man has improved the time by only seconds, and recently by only hundredths/thousandths of seconds. Athletes have ran that event since the early nineteen hundreds and times were respectable then.
Improvements on those times are likely associated with training methods and the improved equipment, as well as specific genetic changes, more so than the use of nutritional supplementation.

Many Of The Improvements Over The Years With Respect To Food And
Public Health Are Directly Related Towards Preparation And Storage.
The Convenience Of Supplements
The primary advantage that supplementation has over real food is a matter of convenience. Pulling out a protein bar from a backpack is a much simpler food choice when compared to storing and pulling out fresh vegetables. When the subject of portable protein is discussed, it is extremely difficult to consider carrying fresh eggs around, or maintaining the safety of a few chicken breasts.
Individuals like me will often carry a small cooler that is loaded with real food. Sometimes this is not an option and some school systems will not even allow school children to carry book bags, since they possibly could be hiding a weapon. So for this reason, given the choice of portable protein versus a fast food choice, the supplementation is usually the better choice.
Another great advantage that protein supplements have is related to their absorption. There is no question that some protein isolates will digest in less than 30 minutes. This becomes extremely important for an individual who is about to participate in a rigorous exercise routine within one hour.
Normally food can take between 3 to 4 hours to digest, and in some cases may take over 8 hours. Choosing to eat real food prior to going out for an athletic event such as a marathon, can often result in unwanted regurgitation. Finally, the protein supplementation allows for a maximum absorption for athletes who require large amounts of protein to be ingested throughout the day.
The Effort To Prepare Real Food
The American College of Sports Medicine indicates that athletes should be ingesting their body weight in grams of protein per day. For an athlete who weighs approximately 260 pounds, this can result in a tremendous amount of time and effort to prepare and eat this amount of food.
For the majority of the Americans, choosing to eat foods in their most raw and natural state is the best choice. This will allow for foods that are high in nutritional value and loaded with trace minerals to be easily absorbed. This will result in a feeling of being full and satisfied sooner when compared to eating processed foods.

Simple Rules To Eat Properly
Follow these simple rules for your clients with respect to eating properly.
- Your meals should be no larger than your 2 fist if you are trying to lose weight.
- Eat protein as the first item with your meals (allows for better absorption).
- Drink approximately 1 gallon of water per 100g of protein per day.
- Aways eat real food in its most raw and natural state whenever possible.
- When you eat fish, meat, poultry, eggs, and other high protein products, always try to prepare them with the least amount of heat possible.
- Use supplementation only when real food is not available.
- Try to eat smaller meals every 2-3 hours.
These simple rules will help to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Consider that most people eat poorly due to the fact that they don't know how to cook foods in a low fat, yet tasteful way.
Many of your clients are just uneducated about cooking in general and gravitate towards the path of least resistance known as "scientifically engineered foods."
