  • Leonetti, Joe
Joe Leonetti is from New Haven, Connecticut. He is about 5'4", and 140-something lbs. He was Mr. Connecticut and Mr. Lightweight Northeast Usa in the late 70s/early 80s. Around 1981, Joe won the Mr USA - AAU, LightWeight division. It was understood that he could take the Lightweight Mr. America easily and be on his way to the Olympia within no time. However, an 'incident' with a shotgun left him doing 3-5 years in jail.

When he got out in like 85/86, he kept training, but did not compete. Working construction/demolition for the state for the next decade, the jackhammer he used eventually caused him 3 strokes. He now limps into the gym 6 days a week, and he takes time to talk to and encourage the younger kids at the gym to keep their noses clean and train hard. He can still hit a lat spread or a most muscular that could compete with any lightweight pro today. You can see muscles and rips and shreds that i dont even see in magazines. im not even joking. at this gym, we have guys who compete, and Joe sizes them up all the time.

Born September 1, 1962 in Queens, New York and raised in Levittown, Long Island. Mother's named Patricia, and has two sisters and two brothers. Graduated from Levittown Division Avenue High School on Long Island, New York. I started training during wrestling in High School and College. Went onto Nassau Community College for Fine Arts and Fashion Design,as well as wrestling at 118 PoundsThen went onto Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. I had to stop wrestling due to a severe auto accident in 1983. After two years of Therapy and Rehabilitation, I began training and going back to school for Fashion and Graphic Design. While going to school I started developing my physique, Training at Mr. America's, Steve Michalik's Gym in Farmingdale, Long Island. Then moved on after that gym had shutdown, to Pro Bodybuilder Tom Terwilliger's Maximum Fitness Gym. That's where I really made great gain's and learned how to train and diet from one of the best training partner's and good friend's in the late 80's into the early 90's. Tom had showed me the rope's on pre-contest dieting. Along the way the influence of friend's in the gym to compete in Body Building shows. I entered my first show as a Bantamweight in 1989 for the Long Island Open. I won the class and for a National Qualifier.A year later with hard training, I had moved up to the Lightweight class in time for the 1990 Empire State's and I won second place in that show.

I competed two more time's that year. In 1991, as a Lightweight with the guidance of Tom Terwilliger and Ronnie Starantino training partner's and won 5 back-to-back National Qualifier's, from the 1991 NPC East Coast Championship to the 1991 NPC Niagara Falls PRO & Amateur Grand Prix which Tom Terwilliger and Ron Starantino had entered with me. That year I went onto the National's for the first time and just missed the top 5 by one placing that year. I compete for 3 more years straight winning my class and over-alls as a lightweight until I tore my right bicepts tenden twice, so I stopped competing and concetrated on business and other thing's in life for awhile, In the year 2000 I went to the National's in New York City as a spectator I vowed to make a come back at the true hobbie and sport I really missed and loved. Now training at Bev Francis Gold's Gym I train harder then ever by the guidance of Steve Weinberger. In 2001 I became a Middleweight, winning my classes and 2 over-all placed in the top 5 at National show's and the rest is history.........

Reg was into track and field, and playe soccer, and at first, found weightlifting unappealing to him. In 1946, Reg was drafted and sent to Singapore, where he became a physical therapy instructor. He came back to England in 1948. In 1947, he went back to college, and kept training with weights that his parent's bought him in their backyard. The first contests came in 1949, when he won both contests he entered. In 1955, a wrestling promoter almost convinced him to be a professional wrestler, but the money just was not there.

In 1958, family life was not great for Reg. His wife has developed spots on her lungs, and his two kids had health problems, so they needed to changed to a warmer climate. Since his wife was from South Africa, that is where they moved to. Two weeks before the 1958 Mr. Universe, he entered it again, and won it, which helped him to move to South Africa and open a gym as the current Mr. Universe, which was a great business advantage.

Reg Park was Arnold Schwarzenegger's bodybuiding inspiration. In Italy, Reg starred in 4 movies, including 'Hercules Conquers Atlantis' (1961), 'Hercules at the Center of the Earth' (1961), 'Maciste in King Solomon's Mines' (1964), 'Hercules, Prisoner of Evil' (1964). Reg also was renowned for his strength and his mighty physique. Reg also had published some magazines including Mr. Universe (began March 1952, lasting 8 issues), Muscleman (begain September 1952, lasting 16 issues), and the Reg Park Journal (from January 1954 - December 1959). Reg currently lives in South Africa. Reg was inducted into Joe Weider's Bodybuilding Hall of Fame in January 1999.

Born October 26, 1923 in Oakland, California. His parents divorced early, and Clarence was placed in an orphanage until he became an adult. In 1941, Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in la Junta, Colorado, and then was transferred to a base near Las Vegas, where he met Leo Stern, and became training partners. He was still in the service when he competed and won the 1945 AAU Mr. America contest. After leaving in 1945 the Air Force, Clarence opened a gym in Altedena, California. The first issue of 'Muscle Builder' magazine, August 1953, by Joe Weider, had Mr. Ross at the editorial helm. Clancy appeared in the 1940's short feature 'So You Want To Be A Muscle Man'.

He was known as the 'King of Bodybuilders'. This was not for how many titles he had won, but for how his presence and aura lifted the sport. Mr. Ross was inducted into the Joe Weider Hall of Fame in the year 2000. Ross' name became legendary because of his proportionately blended muscularity, his graceful posing style and the aesthetics that earned him major magazine exposure.
