  • Cutler, Jay 'Jason'
Born August 3, 1973 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Height 5'9". His real name is Jason, but he goes by Jay. Grew up on a farm in Sterling, Massachusetts. Nicknamed 'The Ultimate Beef'. Jay is the CEO of Vartan Enterprises. Married Kerry Courtemanche on July 9, 1998. In 1999, moved from Spencer, Mass to Aliso Viejo, California.

I was born August 3, 1973 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Worcester is centrally located in Massachusetts. About 50 miles west of Boston. I grew up in a small town called Sterling, which is a suburb of Worcester County. I was born the youngest of seven, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. My dad was a superintendent of the highway dept. and my mother worked in finance at a military base.

My childhood was an active one. I enjoyed riding my bike and playing neighborhood games such as kick the can and hide and seek. I rode ATV's and worked on my family farm which consisted of pigs, goats, chickens, and cows. I worked in my brother's concrete business from early on and developed quite a physique for myself. This physique was the foundation for my bodybuilding career.

In high school I played football. I was extremely popular, especially with the girls! I did the usual high school party routine and really enjoyed my years at Wachusett Regional High School. My high school consisted of 5 towns.

When I graduated high school in 1991, I went to college at Quinsigamond Community College. I completed my associate degree in criminal justice. This is where I discovered bodybuilding. I began training actually on my 18th birthday in 1991. In the beginning, I trained only to look better, but my training quickly led to competition. I competed at 19 years old at the Teen Nationals in Raleigh, NC. I placed first. This was the start of my bodybuilding career and love for competing.

My girlfriend, Kerry, and I moved in together in Worcester. I began training for pro status. The years went by quickly. I worked at different jobs, while Kerry was pursuing her nursing degree. In 1994, I met a person who gave me the guidance and support I needed to become the best bodybuilder and business man. Bruce Vartanian was a local bodybuilder and business owner. Bruce took me under his wing and taught me the ins and outs of business. He taught me what I needed to do to be the best. We trained together along with my diet mentor, Chris Aceto. We built a physique that would sweep the Nationals in 1996 to gain professional status. I was bombarded with contract offers and eventually signed on with Joe Weider.

I took 1997 off from competition and came back to debut in 1998 at the Night of Champions in NYC. I placed 11th- a little off from my best. I went back to old school dieting and training for the 1999 season. I placed 3rd at the Pro Ironman and 4th at the Arnolds Classic. Later that year, I placed 15th at the Olympia.

On July 9, 1998, I married my girlfriend of seven years, Kerry. We got married in a small private ceremony at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas.

My wife and I moved to Aliso Viejo, CA in 1999. We love our life in CA. Kerry is working on her Masters/Nurse Practitioner degree in nursing at the University of Phoenix, while working in Newport Beach at a hospital. I am currently contracted by ISS Research out of North Carolina and also Flex Equipment of CA. I most recently signed on as a writer for my own column "A Cut Above" for Muscular Development Magazine. All my free time is now spent on working at home and traveling for guest appearances. I will continue to do my best and support the industry.

Born August 10th, 1971, in Beirut, Lebanon. Height 5'6". Religion is Christian, has four brothers, and two sisters. George is the sixth child in a family of seven. Currently lives in upstate New York, in Rochester. On August 13, 1998, George was on his way to work, there was an attempted robbery, and some kids, about fifteen years old, shot George three times with a .45 caliber gun. He was forced to go into a coma, because of several cardiac arrests. He was pronounced dead a couple of times. They forced him into a sedative coma because his heart rate would not drop; this way his heart would stop beating so fast. He was in the hospital for about 8 months. They removed his colostomy bag on January 5, 1999, and in May, he won the New York State championships. No one believed in George. Then later on, he won the NPC Nationals. No one thought he could do it. When he told people that in his first pro show, he would qualify for the Mr. Olympia, they laughed at him. And that is just what he did, palcing 3rd at the Southwest Pro.

  • Grimek, John Carol
Along with Joe Weider, John Grime is the one individual most responsible for making the sport of bodybuilding what it is today. Known as the 'Godfather of Bodybuilding'. Born June 17, 1910 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. (He was one of six children). Height 5'8". His first magazine photo was in 'Strength' magazine in 1929. In the 1930's, John worked in a foundry with 100 pound ladles of metal. The 'highlight of his life' that changed him was when he visited the New York gym of Sig Klein (a strongman). John also posed as a model for art students at several universties. In 1936, John settled in York, Pennsylvannia. One of the reasons that Grimek is a legend is that when he began displaying his physique to the public in the late 1930's no one had ever seen anyone quite like him. His mass and symmetry changed the bodybuilding sport forever.

Married his wife Angela on October 20, 1940, and had six children, three daughters, Regina, Patricia and Bonnie; three sons, Robert, Steven and John. He is considered the first great bodybuilder. He worked for 'Strength and Health' magazine until 1964. In 1964 , he became the editor of Muscular Development magazine, a new magazine at the time, and was the magazine's main force for the next 21 years. John was also a competitive weightlifter, winning the 1934 New Jersey State Championships heavyweight division. He also went to the 1936 Olympics, where he placed ninth in the snatch, press and clean and jerk. John passed away on November 20, 1998. John was inducted into Joe Weider's Bodybuilding Hall of Fame in January 1999.
