I completed the Hack Squat for the first time last week and I really liked it. I definitely felt the work in my quadriceps, so even for a compound exercise this provides great isolation for the quadriceps.
Here's what I learned to execute the exercise properly:
1. Allow the barbell to rest against the back of your legs...at first I tried to avoid this and realized it wasn't possible and that doing so would ruin my form completely.
2. Also, depending on your shoulder width and flexibility, your hands may have to be a bit wider than shoulder width apart for comfort and to achieve a optimal range of motion.
3. The other tricky thing about this exercise is the knees will have the tendency to want to move beyond the toes. You may have to watch out for this on the first few sets, but in time you will know how deep to squat.
All of the other vital form tips you would use to execute a traditional squat are necessary as well (of course). Have fun! =) -See Less
