ISS Research Whey Matrix Review
By Matt Canning

I had ordered ISS Research Whey Matrix from Bodybuilding.com when a friend of mine requested it. He is in the process of cutting and wanted a protein powder which contained a caloric breakdown which would help him to achieve his goals.

He has just finished a cycle of Xyience NOX-CG3 and wanted to cut down a little, including a clean high quality protein product in his diet which consisted of a balance of healthy foods. He also wanted to use ephedrine and caffeine to achieve his weight loss goals.

I decided to sample ISS's Whey Matrix to see if the quality was what I expected it to be, and also decided to make myself a heaping shake at the time of writing this review in order to be completely certain of its quality.

One scoop of ISS Research Whey Matrix is 32 grams and contains a total of 130 calories. Only two grams are from fat and six grams are from carbohydrates with 22 grams from protein. This means you get a heaping serving of protein in one scoop, without too much fat or carbohydrates which is desirable for those who do not wish to have a diet too high in either macronutrient.

CUSTOMER REVIEW: ISS RESEARCH WHEY MATRIX

Review:
This is one of my favorite protein supplements. I use ISS mostly because of it's quality. The taste is "decent," but for me taste isn't the most important factor when choosing between protein supplements. I love bodybuilding and this product definitely works for me.

ISS Research offers the following flavors for their Whey Matrix protein powder:

  • Banana
  • Chocolate
  • Cinnamon Oatmeal
  • Cookies & Cream
  • Strawberry
  • Vanilla

I am a big fan of chocolate flavor protein powders as is my friends and so he picked out the chocolate flavor. Premium flavors for a premium product!

Taste:

Excellent taste! One thing you will probably note is that Whey Matrix does not taste artificially flavored! It is also especially important for some of you to note that it is not incredibly sweet. It is soft tasting, so for those of you not interested in overly or artificially sweetened products, this supplement may be for you.

In contrast, Champion Heavyweight Gainer 900, a weight-gain powder, is VERY sweet. Whey Matrix is just the opposite and will be a benefit for those looking for a softer tasting protein powder. Also note that there is a reason for the taste of Whey Matrix - it contains no aspartame and has no sugar added.

Mixability/Texture:

ISS Research Whey Matrix promises ease of mixability, and I would tend to agree. I mixed my shakes either in milk or water (usually milk) and it mixed easily, with some of the protein powder settling at the top, but most of it mixing easily and blending with the milk for a smooth shake. I would guess it mixes even better in a shaker bottle as protein powders generally do.

Overall Review:

ISS Research Whey Matrix is an excellent protein product for a number of reasons - first off it is versatile. It can be used either for bodybuilder's bulking up or cutting, or simply by people looking for a nutritious health supplement. It is also glutamine peptide enhanced, so in addition to having a healthy breakdown of calories, it has an added bonus which is particularly helpful for those wishing to increase performance.

It tastes great and mixes well and is also very affordable - five pounds only costs $39.99! I find that you are paying an economy price for a premium product so you get the best of both worlds. If you like protein shakes which are not overly sweet, you will also like Whey Matrix. Given the sum of its good qualities as well as its affordability, I would definitely endorse this product.

ISS Research Whey Matrix Review
By Marc S.

I had ordered ISS Research Whey Matrix from Bodybuilding.com recently. If you're looking for a whey with a little bit extra in it then ISS Research Whey Matrix might spark your interest.

The main thing that separates this from other whey powders is that it is glutamine peptide enhanced - what's the big deal? Lots of protein powders have L-Glutamine in them. Well, glutamine peptides, unlike L-Glutamine are not in "free" form, meaning they are still bonded to other amino acids with peptide bonds which makes it more stable. At a reasonable price, you get a protein supplement which has no aspartame, no added sugar, and tastes great and mixes well.

Taste:

The flavor I tried was chocolate, one of the hardest flavors to get right in my opinion. Chocolate never tastes like chocolate, so I am not going to say this tasted like chocolate! However I can tell you that if you like the taste of hot chocolate, then you will like the taste of this powder.

I find that it tasted like a hot chocolate mix. I came to that conclusion when I had to mix it with warm water one day - it still tasted good though. In fact, I have mixed this powder with a lot of different things. Here is what I found out: it tastes good with water, warm or cold, tasted better in milk and best with soy milk.

One day I ran out of milk and decided to mix this with a cup of chocolate pudding, the result was a thicker chocolate pudding. You can guess already, it tasted pretty good.

Mixability/Texture:

On the bottle it actually suggests mixing this powder into your cereal, pancake mix, oatmeal, etc. When using a shaker it mixes very easy, but gets really foamy if you shake it for too long. Cup and spoon works too, but not as well, it clumps up so you need to use a deep and wide cup to get a really good mix in.

I haven't tried this with fruit and ice in a blender. I don't think I received a scoop in the container, luckily I had a few extras lying around. I definitely give ISS kudos when it comes to introducing the glutamine peptides, that is what made the product stand out from the other powders!

This is a very good Whey protein. mixability is very good and the taste is good. This particular flavor (Cinnamon Oatmeal) does get old when you have the 5lb tub of it...it would be a better flavor in less quantity.

Digestibilty

I did feel a little bit bloated after taking two scoops of the stuff in one shake. However I realized that it was probably too much to take at once and might have been a side effect of the glutamine peptides in it as it is said that in rare cases it does cause bloating. I guess a bit of bloating is no big deal, however you won't be bloated with just one scoop.

The benefits of the peptides is a more stable, faster, and rumored to be much stronger than L-glutamine. In a double-blind study taken on patients who had undergone major abdominal surgery, supplementation of glutamine peptides effectively reduced their hospital stay time.

Although glutamine peptides seem like the best way to get your glutamine, take caution, although there are no cases of overdosing on glutamine peptide-containing products, people with certain conditions should be cautious when using supplements, and for women - depending on your health, you should avoid taking glutamine peptide supplements unless otherwise directed by a professional healthcare provider.

Overall Review:

So, if you are in the market to buy a unique, economical, protein but want it to have a little more than just the average stuff without spending a lot, then ISS Research Whey Matrix is what you are looking for. With great taste, good mixability, and 6 different flavors (Banana, Chocolate, Cookies and Cream, Cinnamon Oatmeal, Strawberry and Vanilla) it is worth a try and might replace your current protein and the need to supplement with L-glutamine.
