Q
How Did Your Fitness Journey Begin?

I've been in sports since I can remember. I have always been very athletic and my favorite class in school was sports. I started in ballet when I was 4 years old and gymnastics when I was 6. In gymnastics, I had a hard time with focusing and my parents sent me to a taekwondo class so I could learn discipline. After one year of taekwondo I wanted to try something new.

At age 8, I went to my first figure skating class. After six years, I was training really hard with the competition team in my club. I was the youngest girl in the competition team, but almost as soon as I go to that point I hurt my ankle and couldn't train for some time.

After six months of rest, a friend of mine wanted to try some martial arts. I told her about taekwondo and she asked me to come to one class with her. I was hooked. After one month of doing taekwondo, I was training every day. I wanted to be the best.

I have always been very competitive. I competed in figure skating before and now I had found a new passion. I have competed in taekwondo many times. I've been the Icelandic champion once.

2011 did not start well for me. I was going through very tough times in my life and lost my appetite. I got so skinny and weak. I couldn't do taekwondo anymore because I was starting to have heart problems. As soon as I did some kind of cardio my heart would skip a beat and I became very afraid.

I was 47 kg/103 pounds and probably seven percent body fat or lower. My bones were sticking out and I looked scary. In June of 2011, I decided to get myself together. I needed a goal in life. So, I started going to the gym with my fiance. I became stronger and healthier.

I heard people talking about bikini fitness. There were these girls who were going to compete in couple of months and I got interested in it. I went on the Internet and saw all these pictures of these beautiful bikini fitness models and they looked so good.

I decided to compete in August of 2011 for a show in November. I asked couple of personal trainers if they could help me and many of them told me I wasn't ready. I was too skinny and I should wait at least a year to compete. I didn't listen. My fiance helped me in the beginning, but in September I got a great personal trainer. Her name is Katrin Eva and she is just amazing—the best! She had so much faith in me.

I competed at the WBFF European Championship in November 2011. My goal was to just have fun and celebrate all my hard work. I went from being 47 kg and seven percent body fat to 58 kg and 11 percent body fat. I looked way better than before. I got second place at the show. I was very surprised because all my life I have had very low self-esteem.

After my first show I was hooked!

How Did Your Passion For Fitness Emerge?

I love to improve myself mentally and physically. I love to see my results after working so hard. Many people have told me how I inspire them to live a healthier life and that makes me want to work even harder. I want to be a good role model for others, especially younger girls.

What/Who Motivates You To Live A Healthy Lifestyle?

My family and friends; I want to make them proud.

My fiance has also been there for me all the way. He has been a taekwondo competitor for many years and he works as a personal trainer. He knows what I'm going through.

Where Did You Go For Inspiration?

I've had many days like that. When you're getting ready for a fitness competition you can get very tired and start to question yourself. When that happens I talk to my fiance or my trainer. They always make me feel better. They have so much faith in me. I also like to look at videos on YouTube of bikini fitness competitions.

I'm not afraid of having big dreams and goals. I make short term goals and long term goals. My short term goal is to compete at the IFBB World Championships and the Arnold Amateur in November this year. My long-term goal is to get an IFBB pro card. My dream is to compete at the Arnold Classic, Bikini International, and IFBB Bikini Olympia.
