Wrist Supports

It's something you almost never think of.

Until it falls on your face.

You pace around like a hungry tiger for three minutes, preparing for your intense brush with those 110-pound dumbbells. You're not thinking about the pain or the sweat or the veins bulging in your temples and you're surely not thinking about a thing called safety. No, you're not thinking about anything at this moment other than extending those beefy arms - and those clunky weights - straight toward the sky.

As the struggle begins, your arms start to tremble vibrantly from the resistance, as your elbows shake and your muscles twitch. Your forearms begin to arc above you like a rainbow, you've almost completed your mission when...

The 110-pound dumbbell becomes a permanent part of your face.

It's not exactly the ending you were looking for, but as the surgeon removes scraps of iron from your skull, you know you're gonna be hearing the lecture one more time:

You should have been wearing wrist supports.

The worst part of it, you know, is that it wasn't so much your pectoral muscles or your heart that gave in to the 220-pound nemeses. It was your wrists. While your chest was certainly game for cranking out a challenging set of incline dumbbell presses, your wrists just couldn't hang with the big boys.

Instead, these delicate joints allowed the mission - and the weights - to come crashing down upon you.

Hopefully, the next time you'll know better.

Hopefully, you'll have wrist supports.

Wrist supports may not seem like much, just something you strap on for style, but these little dandies are a wise investment for weight trainers of all types, particularly those with mountain-sized intentions ahead of them.

Wrist supports are great for a number of different exercises, particularly pulldowns, dumbbell presses, knee raises, and pull-ups.

The purpose of wrist supports, obviously, is to stabilize the wrists during the strenuous exercises, and preventing them from giving in to overwhelming resistance. After all, how are your muscles going to handle the weights when your wrists can't?

Also, wrist supports help you to focus the resistance primarily on the muscles being worked. You won't be diverting any of the resistance elsewhere.

The wrist supports are an investment that your muscles - and your face - will surely be thanking you for.

GABA For Advanced Performance

The name of the product is GABA, not ABBA, but you can almost hear the lyrics of those Swedish dancing queens, as your browse the shelves for exciting new supplements: "If you take a chance . . . "

Well, seventies disco may very well not be your thing. But if you do wind up taking a chance with AST's GABA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid), you may be opening yourself up to an entire truckload of healthful benefits - and thanking yourself for doing so.

GABA is more than just an amino acid. It is considered a potent neurotransmitter, a substance that activates both the brain and the nervous system, triggering some serious elevations in growth hormones. In fact, many experts consider this product as strong as many pharmaceutical products out there that are designed to boost such hormone levels.

GABA, Gamma Aminobutyric Acid, is an amino acid classified as a neurotransmitter (A neurotransmitter is a substance that transmits nerve impulses across a synapse. A synapse is a region where nerve impulses are transmitted across axon terminals.)

GABA is a highly-tested product, one that comes in a powder form and should be consumed in quantities of somewhere between five and 18 grams per day, most of it before you go to bed.

This powder is designed to work primarily in the hypothalamus, the outer area of the brain, which is where many instinctive functions occur, functions such as sleep patterns and temperature regulation in your body.

Another function in this area is the activity of the pituitary gland, the endocrine gland that rules over all your hormones.

What GABA ultimately does is produce Human Growth Hormones (HGH), an invaluable facilitator in promoting metabolism (fat loss), maintaining energy levels, and increasing muscle mass. Also, HGH is a hormone that naturally decreases with age, so the replenishing of this product will support functions (like weight loss) that become increasingly difficult with age.

There have also been extensive reports that this product support the sleep cycle, providing for that ever-important good night of sleep.

MuscleTech Nitro-Tech

MuscleTech Nitro-Tech was the very first protein powder that I ever used. I started bodybuilding at the age of 18 and was initially attracted to MuscleTech due to the high volume of advertisements. At the time, the ads featured Greg Kovacs and would talk about how he gained 23 pounds of lean mass using the Cell-Tech and Nitro-Tech stack.

Of course, at the time I knew a lot less about bodybuilding and supplements than I do now, and I bought in to the hype! I bought both supplements and used them each as directed. But not for nothing, since the supplements did work! Granted, they could never take someone at Greg Kovac's level and help them to gain 23 pounds of lean muscle tissue, but that is not to say they are ineffective supplements either.

Please Note: Nutritional content and ingredients may vary slightly between Nitro-Tech flavors.

Add 1 to 2 scoops of NITRO-TECH to 4 to 8 oz. of cold water or skim milk and mix in a shaker and stir. Cosume 1 to 3 servings of NITRO-TECH daily (depending on your protein needs). NITRO-TECH should be consumed immediately after your workout. For maximum results, consume 3 servings of NITRO-TECH and 1 serving of CELL-TECH Hardcore daily. NITRO-TECH should be consumed every day for a minimum of 6 weeks as results improve with consistent use.

Each serving of MuscleTech Nitro-Tech contains 110 calories with 20 grams of protein. That is not bad, although not the best either, but still basically what I would expect from a protein. It is perfect to take 1-2 scoops and mix it with a tall glass of milk or in a shaker bottle.

The only flavour of Nitro-Tech which I ever tried was vanilla, and to be honest, I am not really a fan of vanilla at all when it comes to protein powders. I would rather have a chocolate flavour of a fruit flavour so that I could mix the shake in a blender with yogurt, fruit juice, and some fruit.

Vanilla was recommended to me by a friend and it is ok mixed with milk, but I am just not a fan of vanilla. If you like vanilla, you would probably like it though. Since it is the only flavour available for Nitro-Tech, I guess you can take it or leave it, but personally I would prefer a chocolate flavour!

Of course, like anything in life, to each their own, and no doubt some people will enjoy or even prefer a vanilla flavoured protein powder over any other taste. =)

At the time I drank my Nitro-Tech shakes, I would follow the directions and make my shakes with milk. I would usually eat a piece of fruit with each shake to make for a small but complete bodybuilding meal.

At the time, I don't remember any problems at all with mixing. As with any protein powder, you have to expect the occasional clump, but otherwise, there was nothing particularly bad about Nitro-Tech in terms of mixability. The texture was fine and again, was on par with any other protein powder I ever tried.

At the time I used the Muscle-Tech stack of Nitro-Tech and Cell-Tech, I gained a total of 23 pounds while keeping generally the same condition. Check out the pics below to see some of my progress showing what I looked like when I began bodybuilding at age 18, and another picture four years later at age 22:

    Age 18 Age 22

    My Progress.

But you should note what I mentioned above which is that I had just begun bodybuilding and so a lot of those gains would have just been from the initial changes in my diet and my body adjusting to a new training program which I had never done before. I had not spent much time at all lifting weights in my life, and I had not consumed many calories at all before, so I'm not surprised my weight shot up at the beginning.

My gains leveled off later and looking back I kind of think I fell into the MuscleTech marketing trap: they made promises of 23 pounds of lean muscle mass and I did in fact gain 23 pounds! It just so happens that obviously not all of that was muscle and also, no doubt at least some of those gains would have occurred with or without any supplements.

The truth is, I bought all of the marketing hype and campaigns from the ads that I read and I bought the supplements believing what I had read, being naive to the effects of steroids and their role in pro bodybuilding.

When I gained those 23 pounds, my expectations had been fulfilled and I had a definite interest in using more MuscleTech supplements which I did for some time after that! But talk about great marketing...I'm pretty sure that MuscleTech knew that beginners would try their products and experience great gains due to their initial efforts and attribute it to MuscleTech supplements and buy more just as I did! Marketing brilliance. =)

Overall Review:

MuscleTech products are no doubt effective and so is Nitro-Tech. It has basically exactly what I'm looking for in a protein powder. I do wish there were more flavours around because I have a penchant for chocolate or a fruit flavour, but as it is, the main thing I look for in a protein powder is the nutritional content, and Nitro-Tech delivers.

I will say that with so much money spent on marketing, Nitro-Tech is more costly than other protein powders at a cost of $52.89 for four pounds. Personally, I like to give every protein powder a try, but if I was on a budget, I would opt for another brand name. A good product nevertheless, and just as Muscle-Tech suggests, it is a good supplement to stack with Cell-Tech, MuscleTech's popular creatine product.

Dymatize Elite Whey Review:

I have tried many different protein powders in the time that I spent working out, and lately I have made it a goal to try as many as I can get my hands on to see which offers the best in terms of flavours. Once I analyze a protein powder to ensure that it has the basic nutritional content I need covered, I look for a variety of other qualities such as mixability and taste as covered below.

Personally, I would be perfectly ok to literally eat the protein powder off a spoon even if it tasted like cardboard, providing I knew I was getting the protein, vitamins, and calories I was looking for. But if the price is right, I can look into other qualities which make a protein powder pleasant to have.

DYMATIZE ELITE WHEY was a protein that I found to be one of the best I've tried yet. Some other regular protein powders I have used in the past are MuscleTech NitroTech and a big winner in my opinion - Optimum 100% Whey. I tried Dymatize and found it to be as good as anything I have ever tried.

I have tried to flavours of Dymatize Elite Whey, both of which I found to my liking. I tried smooth banana and rich chocolate. Both were delicious and in addition to that, did not leave a bad aftertaste or have any other negative quality. I mostly drank the smooth banana flavour, since I would eat a banana or another piece of fruit with my protein shake and I found it matched well.

I consumed Dymatize Elite Whey in the following manners:

    1. For the smooth banana flavour, I would eat a banana or another piece of fruit with my shake and I would mix the protein powder in a shaker bottle with milk or water. I would add one or two scoops of protein with the liquid by either putting it in the container before the liquid or after.

As a general rule, it is a better idea to put the powder in the shaker after the liquid has been poured as it generally mixes better in this way. I would sometimes use more protein, but since there is only so much protein that your body can digest at one particular sitting, it is not necessary to consume too much. I would rather recommend splitting the protein up over multiple shakes over the course of the day if you wish to consume more protein.

    2. For the rich chocolate flavour, I used the following ingredients to make a protein shake in a blender:

      • Protein powder (varying quantities depending on size of shake desired).
      • Milk (skim, 1%, or 2% depending on your preference. My preference is skim).
      • Cocoa.
      • A banana.
      • Oatmeal.

I found this shake recipe to be just about perfect and enjoyed eating it more than the shake mixed with milk alone and eaten with a banana. However, due to time constraints which generally cause people to consume protein powder supplements to begin with, I found myself more often than not, eating the plain shake with a banana. But if time was not an object, I would much prefer to prepare myself a shake in a blender as described above.

I had absolutely no problems at all digesting Dymatize Elite Whey in any manner at all. However, this may be something that I am simply not susceptible to because I can honestly say that I've never had any problems like this while I hear others complaining about similar issues all the time.

Personally, I doubt if any protein powder will ever cause me to have these types of problems, but I will keep honest assessments on here no matter what - I will point out once again that this type of thing varies from person to person and what may not happen to me may happen to somebody else.

As I continue to state in all my reviews of protein powders, it is not possible to gauge the effectiveness of a protein supplement in the same manner that it is to gauge something that is meant to elicit a specific anabolic effect such as a creatine or NO product.

Protein is nothing more than extra calories. What is most effective to me is the CONVENIENCE, which makes it easier for me to take in the calories I need for growth - Jay Cutler has said it is easier to drink calories than to eat them. I happen to agree.

Overall Review:

What everyone interested in purchasing a protein powder should do is determine what type of diet they would like to be on, and then read through nutritional labels of various protein powders and include them if they wish. Other ways to get protein are food sources such as lean beef, chicken, fish, turkey, or tuna.

Tuna is particularly convenient as well as being generally inexpensive, and my only concern with tuna is the mercury content, so be sure to research as much as possible and determine what you feel should be included in your diet and what shouldn't be.

I am not going to try to get everyone to buy as many supplements as possible because I would rather give honest reviews and allow visitors to my website to make the final decision for themselves. I have to say that all in all, Dymatize Elite Whey definitely passes all the required tests that I wanted it to in terms of taste, mixability, and most of all - nutritional content!

This is one protein that I definitely look forward to drinking without any problems and Dymatize has found a good formula that I hope to see around for some time yet. I look forward to trying the other flavours available, listed below:

    • Berry Blast
    • Butter Toffee
    • Cafe Mocha
    • Chocolate Mint
    • Gourmet Vanilla
    • Green Apple
    • Orange Dreamsicle
    • Pina Colada
    • Rich Chocolate
    • Smooth Banana

It's a tough call since are some good flavours up there, but I think I am most interested in trying out either the berry or apple flavours. As of now, I have not tried an apple flavoured protein powder, so I might be interested in giving it a shot!

One last point, is that the price of Dymatize Elite Whey is quite reasonable given what is a high end protein powder in terms of mixability and taste.

Usually there are plenty of cheaper protein powders that have the requisite nutritional information (which to me is most important), but it is more rare to find ones which taste great and are easy to mix as well as being cheap and nutritious. Dymatize Elite Whey does well in all areas. A+
