Dugdale has reversed roles and has jumped on the monkey that has been riding his back for the past four shows. On his fifth attempt at Olympia invitation, last weekend his diced portions of finely serrated meat has made the qualification cut and now the Dugdale family find themselves on an expenses paid trip to sin city.
Prior to displaying his work of art at the Vegas museum, Mark Dugdale will be showcasing his attention to detail in Columbus at the Arnold Classic.
I may be biased when I write about Mark because I can honestly admit that alongside Phil Heath, I consider him as the most finely tuned and customized piece of machinery at any "Show and Shine".
I am kind of old school when it comes to comparison of physiques and I always peruse for that grainy sinew that always appeared on some English fella that won the Olympia on six holiday outings from his dungeon work desk.
I know it is easy and equally harsh for me to sit behind my keyboard and point the finger, but if a bodybuilder isn't close to that condition, I consider them "off". This pattern of comparison may be why Yates's and myself are good friends - Peter Mcgough both expressed to Dugdale that he could have been a tad tighter.
Mark showed up at the 2007 Iron Man with more cuts than a Charley Manson house guest and his perfectly proportioned shape had my camera screaming "More". If Dugdale was a female bodybuilder I would admittedly say that I would probably be his biggest schmoe, but I never understood why he and beautiful wife - Christine - always ran every time I showed him my latest issue of my Dugdale scrap book.
Anyway, back to his Arnold Classic contribution. The competition will be much stiffer at the 2007 A.C. than was present in '05 when he placed 9th but if he manages to dry out a pinch more from his Iron Man showing, especially through the back, then he has the tools to dismantle some of the favorite higher ranked contenders.
Dugdales good looks and polished physique put him on the poster that is titled "Take up bodybuilding," but his muscular depth may get questioned when paired up against the likes of Martinez. I would encourage Mark to come in 100% dry, grainy and hard to expose the softer side to his competition and fully exposing his striations so they can asphyxiate anyone who tries to pose a threat.
I am honored to have gotten to know Mark Dugdale enough to know that he is as cool as a cucumber and his basic philosophy and drive will prevail in Columbus. If all goes to plan, I predict he will swap roles with another monkey in Ohio. See you there!!
