It's Spring - Are You Sticking To Your 2010 Resolutions?

It is spring 2010! The new year isn't so new anymore, but that doesn't mean you can just forget about your new year's resolutions regarding fitness and health. Now if you are one of the many people that stuck to their guns, worked hard, and are making progress this year, let me be the first one to say congratulations and keep going!

You should be proud of what you have done thus far and I am sure you are inspiring others to follow in your path. To be honest, this article isn't aimed for you so if you like; you can go on and check out many of the other great articles here on or go catch up with friends on BodySpace.

If You Fell Off The Path...

Now, if you are one of "those people" that skipped a night or two, then decided to start again next week, then forgot all about what you planned on doing - then don't move, close your other tabs, and stay right here. I want your undivided attention.

What are you doing? You were off to such a good start and you were so motivated. You saw what was staring back at you in the mirror and you didn't like it. You wanted to change. 2010 was going to be your year! Remember? Here we are a few months in and how close are you to meeting your goals? Do you even remember what your goals were?

OK, it isn't too late. That is the great thing about this wonderful world of bodybuilding and fitness. It is never too late so let's work together to get you back on track and before long, 2010 will still be your year to shine!

Go get a sheet of paper and a pen or pencil. I am going to ask you some questions and I want you to write your answers. By the time we are finished, you will be inspired to give this another go. You ready?

  1. Go stare at yourself in the mirror for three minutes. After three minutes, I want you to take one minute and write all of the thoughts that entered your head regarding what you saw in the mirror.
  2. Now take another minute and answer this question. What do you want your loved ones, friends, and co-workers to think when they see you or think about you?
  3. Are the answers to number one and number two similar?

If they are, then you more than likely are satisfied with where you are in fitness and life and you can stop reading here. If the answers are different, then I want you to answer a bonus question right now. No time limit on this one. Just make sure you think the answer through before you write it down.

Bonus Question: Are you ready at this moment to do what you have to do to make those two answers match?

If that answer is yes, then congratulations. You just made a change bigger than you know. A lot of people think that it takes three, six, maybe 12 months to change their lives for the better. All it takes is one moment to change your life. It may take time to reach your goals, but you making this decision right now is changing your life and the lives of those you care about as you read this. That should excite you. That should inspire you.

Right now you should feel energy you haven't felt in a long time. While you have this momentum, I want you to grab that paper and pen again.

Have You Stuck To Your 2010 New Year's Resolution?

What Are You Going To Do?

Now taking three minutes, I want you to write down as many things as you can that you want to do for the rest of 2010. It can be fitness-related, work-related, or anything else. While you have this positive energy, I want you to write down everything that crosses your mind. You have three minutes ... go!

OK, it has been three minutes. You probably have quite a few things written down on that paper now. I am going to ask you to do something else now. You are going to write all of those things down again, only this time before each one you are going to write down the following phrase. "I WILL"

Write it down just like that. I want all caps to show how emphatic you are about this. For example, your list may look something like this.

  1. I WILL lose twenty pounds of fat.
  2. I WILL take my family on a vacation.
  3. I WILL get a promotion at work.
  4. I WILL bench press 225 pounds.

Don't just write I WILL at the top of the page and write the goals down below it. Write down each one. Once you are done with that, I want you to go back to that mirror you looked at earlier. Take the sheet of paper with you. When you look in the mirror, I want you to read each of those statements outloud. Yes, outloud.

Look at yourself dead in the eyes and speak each of those statements aloud. You probably think I am crazy, but you do this long enough and you will see why I sent you to do it.

Something changed didn't it? Yeah it did. What was it that changed? Was it how you said the statements? Was it the look you saw in your own eyes as you said it? Did that energy you felt earlier increase tenfold? Chances are it was all of the above. If that is the case, you know that now you are ready.

Now Is The Time!

Now that your energy and confidence are higher than they have been in a long time, maybe ever, it is time to get to work. I don't mean tomorrow, I don't mean later today, but rather as soon as you finish reading this article. Whether it is going on a walk, a run, signing up for a gym membership, or tackling one of your non-fitness related goals, you have to get started immediately. The sooner you do means the sooner you start benefiting and the closer you get to reaching those goals.

You have one last thing to do. Take that paper you just answered all of those questions on and frame it. That is right. Frame it. Most things that get framed are things that are important to you. You frame pictures, awards, certificates, among other things. You need to frame that paper because it helped you change your life. That will symbolize how serious you are about this and it will help you keep going.

Now that you are inspired and ready, there is one thing I don't want you to do. Don't quit this time. You have never been known as a quitter at anything in life and this is your chance to prove that to yourself. The rest of your life and those you care about are going to be affected in a positive way by doing what you are doing right now.

There are people you never met whom you may inspire by following through on your goals. You can show many people that just because they don't stick to their goals past January, it doesn't mean that they can't achieve them at all before the year ends.

This IS your year! Your time is RIGHT NOW! Now is your chance to prove to yourself that you do what you say you are going to do! In one moment, you changed your life as you know it. Imagine what your life will be like a few months from now. Achieve it!
