Gregg Gillies

Background

Since I starting training my bench press has gone from 45 pounds to 275 for a couple reps. Overall, I've put on over 40 pounds of muscle from a starting weight of 141 pounds.

Health and fitness has always been a very big part of my life. I played as many competitive sports as I could from as far back as I can remember, right through college and beyond. I was very skinny growing up. You know the type. I ate anything I wanted without gaining a pound. About 17 years ago I started working out with weights in order to help my performance in both soccer and basketball. I was small boned and hit the gym for the first time weighing 141 pounds with 10% body fat at a height of 6 feet tall.

I was instantly bitten by the lifting bug, devoting almost all of my free time to learning everything I could about training, nutrition and supplementation. For more years than I care to count, I tried everything I could think of to gain muscle without much in the way of progress. I followed all the different routines from the muscle magazines. I continually asked why and dug deeper into the accepted beliefs and concepts that stated how to build your best body. I learned where to locate credible information as well as scientific material and began questioning the accepted practices.

I finally began to make progress. Not rapid progress since I am small boned, but good progress nonetheless. I made more progress and got stronger in a year than I had in my previous 10 plus years of bodybuilding. After over 10 years I had gone from my previously mentioned 141 pounds at 10% body fat to my current 185 pounds at 8.5% body fat. That's a gain of over 42 pounds of muscle.
