Q

How did your fitness
journey begin?

I used to live the typical 20-year-old lifestyle with late nights, parties, and endless eating. I was taking courses towards a career that I had no interest in and felt troubled.

When I turned 21 years old in January 2011, I started attending the gym with my boyfriend. I felt great, began eating better, and was seeing results, which was extremely encouraging. I made small goals and expanded from there. I came across Jamie Eason's LiveFit Trainer and gave it a shot. I couldn't believe the changes in my muscle tone and conditioning. I started lifting heavier, minimized my cardio, and saw big changes.

In May 2012, I attended my first bodybuilding show. Seeing the competitors showcase their hard work and dedication was inspiring. I decided then and there to compete. It was my future. A couple months later, I hired a coach and started my journey.

How did your passion for fitness emerge?

It's funny to look back on who I was before I began living healthy. I barely recognize myself. It's fascinating to see how fast the body responds to weight training. Seeing progress in myself physically and psychologically drives me to work harder. I was unhappy for a long time and fitness changed the way I look at life.

I love feeling nerves leading up to a show. It's amazing. I also love the offseason because I can grow and do things I otherwise couldn't during contest prep. You have to love every aspect of the competitive lifestyle.

What or who motivates you to live healthy?

I motivate myself. I'm the one who goes to the gym, gives 100 percent, and preps my meals. I'm the one who practices posing for hours. Seeing the transformation I made within is incredibly motivating. My family and friends are a huge motivation for me. They are supportive and I couldn't do it without them. They attend my competitions and it means the world to me.

Where did you go for inspiration?

If I'm in need of inspiration, I look at my favorite athletes, watch their videos, or read their articles. Lately, I've read more on self-improvement to think positively. It translated into my fitness lifestyle and many other aspects of my life.

"Stop competing with others and start competing with yourself."

What are your future fitness plans?

It would mean everything to achieve my IFBB bikini pro card. I'm currently training hard for my upcoming season. I took feedback from judges and will bring my best package to the stage. Competing made me realize how much I love the industry. I'm hungry for knowledge. I would like to aid others in their competitive lifestyle by providing nutrition, training, and posing classes.

What is the most important fitness tip?

Stop competing with others and start competing with yourself. You are the one who knows how hard you've worked to get where you are. Be determined to bring your personal best, know that you've done everything you can, and be proud of what you've accomplished.

Who is your favorite fitness competitor?

Ashley Kaltwasser and Nathalia Melo are the pros I look up to. These women inspire me daily and I hope to have the opportunity to grace the stage with them one day.
