[ BodySpaceAdmin ] Where are you from, and how long have you been working out?
fitfanatik: Well, I've lived here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada since 1986 and started trained in 1990 at the age of 20 years old. I have been
dedicated ever since!
[ BSA ] How did you first find out about BodySpace and Bodybuilding.com?
fitfanatik: I actually just got online for the first time back in 2004! (I can't believe it myself. Sad, but true!) Then I found out about
Google, and the first word I entered was
bodybuilding, and it brought me straight to
The information contained on the site was/is a goldmine! There was no stone left unturned! I value the site like no other - thanks to all the staff, you rock!
As for BodySpace, it wasn't until the summer of 2006 that I believe it was introduced. The membership has since doubled and tripled, and the features on the site have quadrupled! I love it! (I just need to make better use of them all!)
|BODYSPACE: STRENGTH IN NUMBERS|
[ BSA ] Your profile mentions that you are training for the 2007 CBBF Canadian Nationals. Give us a little background on that.
fitfanatik: I had been training for 8 years and my
progress was limited to just maintenance training. I felt I needed to take things to another level and put some extra pressure on myself. What better way to go about it, than by entering a
So in 1998, I entered my first show with no real prior knowledge, just determination. I came in at a shredded 154 lbs. at 5'5"-ish, but had to settle for third place... All I can say is, "What a rush!"
This motivated me even more to try again, and come back better than before! Low and behold, the hard work paid off! Two months later, I did the Provincials and won!
Fast forward to 2007 and 9 shows later... Let's just say that I'm hooked! Right now I am prepping for my 6th trip to the Canadian Nationals to be held August 18, 2007 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The show is only 3 hours from my house, and you can be sure I will have done my homework. I am hoping to move up a weight class, and the help of a sponsor will ensure my success! All offers are welcome! Hint, hint...
[ BSA ] Your profile says that you're a Fitness Equipment Technician in "8 clubs in the city." Tell us about that.
fitfanatik: My whole life has revolved around the health and fitness industry. The only problem was the paycheck back in the day didn't equal that which I made working pipeline construction. The oilpatch had its drawbacks though, mainly being the long hours and no days off.
As fate would have it, though, in mid-February of 2007, I ran into an old friend that is still working (26 years now!) as a Tech for World Health Club here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. And it turned out that he was looking for a new apprentice!
Since I had helped him build a fitness club 7 years prior and have been a member of World Health Club for over 17 years, it only seemed appropriate that we join forces! The amount of knowledge he has passed on to me is incredible!
The World Health Club chain is the biggest and the best in all Alberta and soon to be Canada! The equipment and environment caters to all walks of life.

Each club has literally thousands of pieces off equipment. The famous brands include: Apex, Atlantis, Hammer Strength, Life Fitness, Magnum, Strive, Matrix, Paramount, Free Motion, Keiser, Precor, Lomond, StarTrac... the list goes on and on!
I get to mix my 2 passions, mechanics and the gym - how sweet is that! Check out our website for more info, www.worldhealthclub.com, or stop by anytime for a personal tour!
[ BSA ] What's your favorite part or feature of BodySpace?
fitfanatik: Jeez, that's a tough question. There are so many features it's hard to pick just one! I'd have to say, though, that I'm all about detail. So the
lifting stats with graphs kick a$$ as well as the profile stats. You have to love the
photo galleries in the thread page format as well. You guys have really taken things to another level! Kudos to you all for your on-going efforts!
[ BSA ] Thanks for the kudos! Who is your favorite bodybuilder?
fitfanatik: Well that would have to be Mr.
Lee Labrada! I wonder if someday he is gonna make a comeback?
Vince Taylor did and he still looks phenomenal! Some current favorites are
Victor Martinez and
[ BSA ] If you were stranded on a deserted island with only one supplement, what would it be?
fitfanatik: Hmmmm... I would hope there would be some bananas and coconuts to go along with
Whey Protein Isolate! When you are desperate, flavors wouldn't matter, but lately I have been lovin' orange creamsicle whey!
[ BSA ] Your photo gallery is impressive with 46 photos! Are the comments you receive mostly positive or negative (a common problem on BodySpace sometimes from a few bad apples...)?
fitfanatik: Thanks! For the most part, the comments I have received have been kind and inspiring, and I thank you all! The constructive criticism is also welcome and needed to keep me motivated. As for the "bad apples"... LOL They are entitled to their opinion as well. After all, this is the Internet and why take "them" or anyone for that matter, seriously?
[ BSA ] What prompted your New Year's Resolution in 1990 that led to your getting started in bodybuilding?
fitfanatik: The reasons were obvious back then, as I was 20 years old and weighed 133 lbs soaking wet. That, and the fact that my younger brother was into
training and starting to kick my
a$$. It was kind of a "do or die" situation! Now the tables have turned, and the discipline and hard work has paid off!
[ BSA ] What is so special about Purple-K above all other creatine products?
fitfanatik: What is special about
Purple-K is that I get the benefits of
creatine without the side effects. What I mean by this is that I get explosive
strength and quicker
recovery times. This leads to an increase in lean gains.
There is also no loading phase required and the increase in performance is immediate! I don't get any of the side effects that I have experienced with regular creatine such as water retention and upset stomach. I can use Purple-K right up until the time that I step up on stage.
[ BSA ] If you could choose who you received sponsorship offers from, who would be your top 3?
fitfanatik: Now that is the million $$$$$$$$$$ question! Ahhhh....
Sponsorship from a top
supplement company is probably every bodybuilder's dream! I would have to say, of the thousands out there, a select few stand head and shoulders above the rest.
In no particular order, I would choose:
Mr. Lee Labrada and his Labrada Nutrition team are perfectionists in every sense of the word! Still and always, the "Mass With Class!"
I added Fusion Bodybuilding because they use no-nonsense supplements that work and they do not use proprietary blends that are hidden - you know exactly what you are getting per serving.
Mr. Rich Gaspari was a legend in his own time. The first man ever to bring ripped glutes to the stage! Thanks to all of Gaspari Nutrition in advance for your honesty and integrity! Without the quality, there is no quantity! I'm movin' up a weight class!
[ BSA ] What was it like coming in 2nd Place at the 2006 Canadas? Why do you feel the judges placed you second instead of first?
fitfanatik: Placing in the Top 3 at the Canadian Nationals is always a rush! Just being there is, actually. The physical specimens there blow my mind everytime! 2006 was my 5th trip to the Canadian Nationals and coming in 2nd in '03 and 3rd in '04 leaves something to be desired: to stand in the winners circle!
There's no doubt it could have gone either way, as I feel I outconditioned the winner. Yet, he did have the complete package, where I could use more upper pec, hams and calves. Lets just say "I'll be back!" On a sidenote, I might add the winner was the brother of the promoter! LOL
[ BSA ] Your profile says that your long-term goal is a "secret"... What are the odds you'll tell us in this interview? LOL
fitfanatik: LOL... Hmm... Honestly, I believe I have reached my long-term goal already. Ulimately, for me, it's about living a life that is productive to the betterment of society. It's about being healthy, happy, and positive
all the time.
What's weird is that my long-term goal was written last year, and a DVD I recently rented, "The Secret," describes this all too well. I highly recomend everyone of you reading this to get a copy!
[ BSA ] It looks like you've lost 5 pounds over the past 6 months or so, but your weight goal is to gain 20 lbs. What happened?
fitfanatik: Well, honestly, total bodyweight should not be the deciding factor in determining the success of one's fitness goals. In reality, I actually decreased my
bodyfat percentage while increasing my lean muscle mass!
I will be updating my body composition and training progress often to make sure I am progessing towards my ultimate potential. If adjustments need to be made, so be it. We all need to be flexible in our approach, as there are many variables.
[ BSA ] Tell us about becoming Amateur Bodybuilder of the Week here on Bodybuilding.com.
fitfanatik: Jeez... What can I say? "You won't know unless you try!" I think that was a couple years ago around Christmastime. What a present to receive (to be picked)! I was featured for actually for over a month! Thanks again - that was sweet!
It scored me free supplements and a rare, limited edition Bodybuilder Of The Week t-shirt. I still wear it proudly! Now, I am here doing this interview with you. "The future is so bright, I gotta wear shades!" LOL
[ BSA ] Any final comments or anything else you want to tell people?
fitfanatik: I'd like to thank you and
everyone at BodySpace for this opportunity and hangin' out with us.
It has been a fun and memorable experience that will last the ages! I need to give a shoutout to my bro and mentor, Mikey "Would You?" at World Health Club; the owners at World Health Club, Rob and Brian, for giving me a chance to play a critical role in helping make dreams come true for those with health and fitness goals; and my training partner, Michael "Always On Time?"... LOL
Always remember to promise yourself:
"To be so strong that nothing can disturb your piece of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and expect only the best. To be just as enthusiasic about the success of others as you are your own. To forget the mistakes of the past, and press on to the greater acheivements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble!"-- Author Unknown
Words to live by! Time to feed the machine! I wish all of you the very best in your quest of reaching your ultimate potential. Get'R Done!!
[ BSA ] Thank you, Todd, for your time and your outstanding profile on BodySpace! I hope you'll get a ton of hits and positive feedback because of this feature. Best of luck on your goals!
fitfanatik: Oh, no - Thank
