Newf13 loves visiting Bodybuilding.com and BodySpace, the forums and photo galleries, and updating his BodyBlog regularly. He has been a registered Bodybuilding.com member since Dec. 3, 2006.
[ Fblead40 ] Where are you from, and how long have you been working out?
Newf13: I am from Newfoundland, Canada and I have been working out since December of 2006. Although, I had worked out for a few months a year earlier but I stopped for a year in between.
[ FBL ] How long have you been visiting Bodybuilding.com and using BodySpace?
Newf13: I have been visiting
bodybuilding.com for a little over a year. I did a bit of reading to find out what I was getting myself into before I started. And I started using BodySpace in December as well, when I started lifting.
[ FBL ] On your profile you mention that you and your friend once put some motivating quotes on the wall while listening to pump-up music. What were some of those?
Newf13: "Only the Strong Survive," "Failure Releases the Strength Within," (which is so true!); "One's Greatest Success Comes After One's Greatest Disappointments," and the classic "Stop Your Bit**ing, It Won't Get You Anywhere." One wall in my room is completely covered with some of these quotes.
[ FBL ] You are apparently doing a lot of research on weightlifting and reading about it for an hour or so a day. What field in the sport of bodybuilding keeps you most interested? Also, which section of bodybuilding.com do you visit the most?
Newf13: I do most of my reading on different types of
workouts people use, to see what works for everyone else and maybe experiment and try it out a bit myself.
I also like to get right to the bone - get it very technical, LOL, because I like to sound smart if someone asks about anything that I can help them with. I visit Teen Member of the Month a lot to see what my competition is. I would like to try for it sometime in the future but maybe I'll wait. I still have 3 years for that yet. I also check the exercise pages a lot to try new workouts all the time, to really shock those muscles.

[ FBL ] One of the reasons you started working out is to improve for basketball. Are you still playing? How is that going, combined with your weight-training program?
Newf13: It was going excellent, it really helped me out a lot for the sport, especially my shooting and jumping - but I quit
basketball. Lifting weights took over and I enjoy this a lot more now. Plus working and trying to do well in
school, it doesn't give me the time to play school sports anymore.
|Chris Young (Newf13): 70 Lb. Bicep Curls.
[ FBL ] You're obviously an active BodySpace member, and making great use of your charts, etc. When looking at your bicep curl strength chart, it becomes visible that you lost a lot of strength during this lift around May this year. What happened?
Newf13: I lost a bit of
strength in this lift, but not quite sure why... I think I kind of exhausted myself in this lift - I was kind of working too hard to get gains here, but I am taking it slower now and they are stronger than ever now, so it's paid off. I'm learning from my mistakes.
[ FBL ] You said that you wanted to compete someday in the future. Any concrete plans yet?
Newf13: I am planning hopefully on
competing next summer. It's not concrete yet because I will most likely have to go away, but if it's possible then next summer most likely.
[ FBL ] Your current bench press one-rep max (1 RM) is at 221 lbs. How are you planning to reach your goal, which is 300 lbs?
Newf13: Well, the only way I am going to get stronger is lifting weights and pumping in the
protein. I am going to start a higher
calorie diet, I think, to put on some weight, therefore more muscle and then the lift will come with time.
[ FBL ] Are you still going to the gym in the mornings? Besides the caloric benefits tied to it, why do you like training in the morning so much?
Newf13: I still do go in the mornings because this allows me to get it out of the way. I have the evening to go to work or to do stuff for school - it helps a lot.
[ FBL ] Gaining 20 pounds of lean muscle mass isn't easy. How are you going to do this? When do you want to have this goal achieved?
Newf13: I plan on doing this by next year sometime, probably within a year to a year-and-a-half. I don't know around how long it should take, so I am going to give it time because if not it will only make me angry that I can't seem to reach my
[ FBL ] In your circle of friends, are you the only bodybuilder, or do you all work out?
Newf13: In my circle of friends there are very few that work out. Some of my buddies work out for
hockey but that's about all of them that I hang out with that work out. I am pretty much on my own here.
[ FBL ] Care to give a shout out to some of your other BodySpace friends? Who's your favorite member?
Newf13: I would like to give a shout out to all my friends from
Newfoundland and fellow lifters from here, and also
MuscleAgent because he's been a good online mentor for me.
[ FBL ] Any final comments or anything else you want to tell other teens on BodySpace or Bodybuilding.com?
Newf13: Nothing much to say to the other
teens that both myself and them have not already heard. Lift hard, be determined, get a good
buddy to lift with you to help
motivate and push you harder than ever. The gains will come without a doubt. Train hard and good luck in the future!
