The 2008 OCB Spirit of America was truly an international event, with competitors coming from as far away as Australia, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Canada and the USA.
One competitor, Rosa Guzman, was hearing impaired and showed no limitations because of her disability. This was Team Sully's fifth SOA.
Ninety-six men and women athletes vied for seven Pro Cards, including four male bodybuilders, one female bodybuilder and two figure competitors.
This was a drug-free competition, all competitors were given a polygraph test to attest they were drug free for five years and every class winner was given a urine test.
The Head Judge was IFPA Pro, James Carron and the other judges came from California, Alabama, New Hampshire, New York and Connecticut.
The competition was held at the Mashpee High School in the quaint Cape Cod town of Mashpee. The venue was well-suited for the competition, with a great stage, great lighting, a very good sound system and plenty of room back stage for both the men and women competitors.
The SOA's sponsors, Scivation, Bodybuildng.com, Cape Cod Nutrition, Gold's Gym and some local vendors benefited from large crowds at both the Pre-judging and Evening Show.
Prejudging began on time at 11 AM and ended at 4:30. The evening show kicked off with an a cappella rendition of our National Anthem sung by master pro and contest judge, Scott "Old Navy' Hults.
The Master of Ceremonies, former President of the ANBC, Bob Gormley, kept things moving. By 10 PM, the promoters and contestants were enjoying the post-party at a local pizzeria.
The fifth OCB Spirit of America was an excellent competition, one of the best ever OCB events.
