Towel dumbbell front raise

The towel dumbbell front raise is a variation of the dumbbell front raise that involves hanging a dumbbell from a towel held in the hands. It could also be performed with a kettlebell or weight plate. It can provide variety in a shoulder-focused muscle-building workout or as part of an upper-body or full-body circuit.

Benefits

  1. Intense shoulder burn focusing primarily on the front or anterior deltoids
  2. More difficult than a standard dumbbell front raise, allowing greater challenge with less weight
  3. Swinging weight provides additional stabilization challenge to core and upper back

Towel dumbbell front raise Instructions

Towel dumbbell front raise muscle diagram
  1. Roll up a small towel and grasp it by the ends. Encircle the towel around a dumbbell’s handle pressed up against the inner side of the upper plate, keeping your hands together to ensure the weight doesn’t slip through the loop. Let your arms hang down directly in front of you. This will be your starting position.
  2. With your arms extended, do a front raise, bringing your hands up to about eye level in a smooth motion. Lower under control and repeat for reps.
