How Did You Get Started?
I got started training through sports in school. After I graduated I didn't play any college ball, I just continued to train; pretty much just for size and gaining weight. I trained with, Pete Hunkus, a football coach from my high school for 2+ years. We trained religiously every day. I established a good base and gained about 45 pounds in that time, I was 20 yrs. old and weighing in at 215.
I left Brookfield, OH in 2002 with my fiance, Jordan, to move to Columbus while she attends dental school at OSU. This is where the bodybuilding career began. I started training at World Gym and got more interested in competing as time went on and I met more people in the sport. I trained for the next 2 yrs. continuing to grow and weighing in at around 250. This is the point in which I began getting ready for a couple of shows in the spring of '05.
After the spring shows I started training with Joey Decaminada (2004 Mr. Ohio) and Mike Davies of The Fitness Factory. This was the best move I made, those two are amazing with workouts, nutrition, posing, basically every aspect of the sport. They got me ready for the shows in the fall, where I won 5 out of the 5 classes I entered. I weighed 235 on stage and am now 275 training for next season, all thanks to those two.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Sample Training Schedule:
Monday - Chest
Tuesday - Off
Wednesday - Legs
Thursday - Shoulders
Friday - Off
Saturday - Arms.
We normally hit 5-6 exercises per group with 3-4 working sets.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
For gaining quality muscle mass and size its all about eating clean nutritional meals OFTEN! You should be eating a lot of food, but not garbage, thru out the day. Every hour and a half or so it should be feeding time, growing time!
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
Because when it is all said and done, it all boils down to you. As you are standing there on stage you either did what you had to do or you didn't.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I'm going to compete in the Pittsburgh Bodybuilding Championship in the spring and Jr. Nationals a few weeks later in June.
*5 contests; NPC sanctioned
6-1st place class finishes
1-2nd place class finish
1-4th place class finish
Novice overall Champ
The 2nd and 4th placing were in my first contest spring '05 (2nd in the novice and 4th in open heavies). The other placings were in the super-heavy class.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Find a training partner with the same goals and priorities that you have. This keeps intensity in the workouts and is a motivational factor.
