How Did You Get Started?
It was the movie The Labors of Hercules starring the legendary Steve Reeves that excited my interest towards the development of my body. I was 14 years old. I bought dumbbells and started to exercise - but it was just an introduction. More seriously, I trained myself during military service.
Then, the most important date is 1974, when I made a decision that found assertion in a bet. I bet that by the age of 57 I will have shaped my body to look like an antique sculpture, meaning my body will have been sculpted into a piece of art, resembling antique ideals of beauty - an imaginary Achilles, not Hercules. To achieve this goal I set up for myself a device, "A better body with every passing year".
And today, at the age of 59, I can declare that thanks to my commitment and decades of devotion, I am in the best shape of my life. My body is more attractive, stronger and healthier than ever before! It means that this decision has influenced all my following life!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I have never trained myself at a gym. I have always made my exercises at home. And I have trained only with little weights. The first time I got a barbell (63kg) for myself was when I was 40 years old. Before that I had trained only with dumbbells (10kg), expander and training roll.
So, in my case this result has been achieved easily, painlessly, without renouncement or restricting myself with discipline or diet. In other words, in the only possible way for me - without sacrificing my own easy life. Being a painter, an artist, I am more of a gentle bohemian type than an "iron man" with an iron will and high endurance. It means that any kind of restrictions, uncomfortable feelings or discipline aren't acceptable for my nature. Take it easy, but never give up! It has been my rule through the decades.
Yes, of course I have had always a wish to train more - four time in a week - but it almost never has succeeded. I was satisfied enough if I had trained two times in a week, because time and time there happened to be one or even two week pauses. It was still alright - wasn't a big problem. Length of session - at an average it has been 1.5 - 2 hours.
By this way it has been before, through decades - but not now!
Because after I exposed my body-photos at my art exhibition "Miami Beach" in 2004 - where I had made public my life-long dedication to shape my body into a work of art - things have changed. In the last six years I have been much more conscientious in my training. Mostly I have even succeeded to do my exercises four times in a week and the length of sessions has risen to 2 - 3 hours.
This kind of training routine I have had through last six years:
Day 1 - Upper Body:
- Walking Up And Down Stairs: 10 sets of 29 steps
- Bench Press: 3 sets of 25-21 reps
- Barbell Pullover: 2 sets of 27-23 reps
- Flat Bench Dumbbell Flyes: 2 sets of 51-47 reps
- Dumbbell Rows: 2 sets of 31 reps
- Pullups: 3 sets of 9-7 reps
- Dumbbell Shrugs: 2 sets of 43 reps
- Dumbbell Front Raises: 2 sets of 21 reps
- Dumbbell Laterals: 2 sets of 23 reps
- Bent Over Flyes: 2 sets 19 reps
- Incline Dumbbell Curls: 2 sets of 21 reps
- Lying Triceps Extensions: 2 sets of 33 reps
Day 2 - Lower Body:
- Walking Up And Down Stairs: 10 sets of 29 steps
- Stiff Leg Deadlift: 3 sets of 15 reps
- One Leg Squats: 3 sets of 23 reps
- Calf Raises: 3 sets of 27 reps
- Side Bends: 2 sets of 37 reps
- Hanging Leg Raises: 3 sets of 33 reps
- Lying Leg Raises: 1 set of 117 reps
- Ab Roller: 3 sets of 57 reps
- Incline Crunch: 3 sets of 37 reps

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I have never had a strict nutrition plan. There hasn't been anything special in my nutrition - just ordinary food. I have never used a specific diet because it's too tedious and too full of torment for my nature. If there have been problems with fat - then I just have tried to eat less and exercise more.
In my case there have never been problems of obesity because my food is too simple, humdrum and inexpensive. On the other hand, my age has reached the point where it's time to gain some more muscle mass (for tightening aging skin), and that's why there is a serious need to eat more and better.

I drink a lot of coffee and water every day. That's all - and all the time - there almost aren't changes. I would like to eat a meat and good fish too, but those foods are too expensive for me.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I don't use any supplements.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
It isn't bodybuilding for me. It's my art project! My goal has never been an athletic accomplishment. The answer is: I just love beauty!
And if you love beauty, you aren't allowed to be ugly by yourself.
In my case, as an artist I am inspired by craving for beauty. It appears that although I myself have been destined to shape the male body, I feel the perfection of beauty is embodied in female body shapes. And this ethereal, utmost beauty is what I am trying to reproduce in my paintings. It means that it is not only my wish but also my professional need to experience visual delights, to enjoy the beauty of the female body, to perceive its closeness.
Because of that, I was driven to set a goal based on the notion that if you are dreaming about being surrounded by beauty, being therefore "a little bit" exacting about the appearance of the people around you - then you yourself cannot be unattractive, you can't be like a "monster" among beauties. But you must try to change your own appearance also and become more aesthetic. It means that this decision influencing all my following life was based on aestheticism. It was an ethical decision dictated by my aestheticism.
And yes, an intentionally trained human body, modeled into a beautiful shape - especially the fabulous, well shaped curvaceous female body - is a true creation of art. It is a masterpiece of art and the author of such a wonderful creation can only be an artist. And that's why it isn't a sport, that's why it is an art project.
And so, exercising (name it fitness or bodybuilding) gives us a chance to create beauty. Exercising, being as a method at this creative process, is just a tool for achieving your goal to look aesthetically beautiful.
And of course exercising is also preventive maintenance. It's like an anti-ageing vaccine and therefore the only real means for stopping the effects of time.
What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?
Health has never been a priority for me. It always has been about the look. I haven't had a need to think about my health because I know from my own life-long experience the following:
When you choose a good looking appearance, you get good health as a bonus! When you preserve your appearance, you also preserve your health. A Good-Looking Body = Good Health.
So, I just know, as long as I'm caring for my look, and as long as I'm sculpting my body I don't need to care about my health. It will be just magnificent! And yes, exactly by the same way as my body's look changes better with every passing year, also my health changes better year by year.
What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?
From the beginning: Dreams! Dreaming is always the first step on the long road to self-commitment. Dreaming is a softer and sweeter way to set goals allowing the most pleasures. So just take your step, make your move from dream to decision, set a goal! As long as you're still dreaming, as long you have a goal - so long as you are young in your soul!
Set a goal to look aesthetic and youthful in your physique for as long as possible! Remember - appearance is just a matter of choice. As long you look good and so long as you are young in your body! Remember a good looking body means good health. That is the rule. For conclusion: If you are young by your soul and physique - you are living life to the fullest! And it means you have a goal of living your life and achieving your goals.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I have no doubt that my device "a better body with every passing year", which has followed me almost 40 years is still with me and will stay with me for years as a life-long goal. Obviously there aren't many chances for very "long term" future plans in my age any more. But I still have a new one in addition to my life-long goal. I have made a decision: my body's look will become one of the most youthful and most aesthetic among older men.
For achieving this goal I have made a plan. I just have to raise my weight 10kg!
Look here I am at 59 and my weight is 60 kg. It means that I'm back in the year 1966 when I was a teenager (16 years old and weight 60 kg, height 176 cm)! And then 5 years later, in 1971, my weight was 77 kg. It was the maximum weight I ever have had. So in 5 years my weight had risen 17 kg, and after that it has taken 38 years to lose those 17kg.
What's next? Here is my plan: during the next 5-6 years I will take back 10 kg. (Sure, this plan will be realized only if the destiny lets it happen. I mean if I can succeed to get money for better food and for a gym to train at with bigger weights.) Obviously the weight 70 kg would be okay for me, my look would be "perfect" I think. It means my body as a living sculpture as a completed work of art will be finished. And then I will keep this look for as many years as possible.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
As I'm not a bodybuilder, I do not have the eligibility to give advice to other bodybuilders. But for other common persons like me, especially for beginners I would say this: start shaping yourself and never give up! Take it easy, because if you take it too hard you can lose or injure yourself or kill your enthusiasm too early. All you have to do is carry on exercising and turn this lifestyle into a habit like brushing your teeth. And of course never lose your belief in yourself.
For young people I would add that what you want to look like at the age of 50 or 60 or 70 must be decided right now when you are still young and handsome. Because if you do not shape yourself then time will do it for you and definitely not the way you would like it. Choose a good-looking appearance. Do your part to slow down the visual and physical deterioration of the human body so that future generations can also have the chance to enjoy the ultimate beauty which is the beauty of the human body.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
First of all it's Arnold - because he's Arnold! And for the next it's Olev Annus (Professional Mr. Universe 1987, Professional World Champion 1991, World Champion (overall) 1987 etc) because he is my friend and he's Estonian like me and of course he looked just great.
Yes they are my favorite bodybuilders, but it doesn't mean that they present the ideal body forms by my vision since in my opinion ultimate beauty is expressed in slim muscularity and the harmony of normal bodily proportions and not in massive body forms.
