How Did You Get Started?
I started training 9 years ago. At first it was mostly cardio but I admired those in my gym preparing for shows. I began to weight train and my body responded almost immediately. My strength improved quickly and I was addicted to the challenge my training brought me.
Eight years later I approached personal trainer and WNSO Pro, John Webster and asked if I was ready to show. Although he remained calm and professional I saw a spark in his eyes, I knew it was time! Sixteen weeks later I was onstage!
A third place finish at an OPA Level 2 show, not a bad start. Six months later to the day I was onstage once again. This time winning an Eastern Ontario Champion title with Neutron Sports!
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Lifting heavy 5 times per week:
Day 2: Chest/ Shoulders
Day 3: Back
Day 4: Off
Day 5: Hams/ Glutes
Day 6: Shoulders/ Arms
Day 7: Off
The last few weeks of prep include drop sets and super sets. Cardio increases gradually as a contest nears. Off-season I do 25 minutes HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) 3-5 times per week. I also vary my training during this time to hit each body part at least twice per week.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
A diet high in protein, moderate in carbs, and moderate fat has proven to be best for me.
Sample Diet List:My proteins include:
- Brown basmati or Jasmine rice
- Anything green!!!
- Any dry spice (my cupboard is full!)
- Hot sauce
- Hot peppers
- Organic green tea
- Organic coffee
A healthy diet does not have to be boring. Spice it up!
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
It keeps me focused. I love setting a goal and completing it. The science and research behind the contest prep fascinates me. The only thing that fascinates me more is seeing my body change day-to-day during the process.
I enjoy being on stage or in front of the camera but even more I love my time at the gym and growing stronger! I also do it for health reasons. With all the emerging disease in our society staying fit keeps me healthy and of course happy!
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
Future Goals Include:
- WNSO FAME 2006
- OPA Provincial Championships 2006
- To continue to pursue fitness modelling opportunities
- To learn more about my body and use this to improve my overall physique
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Plan your off-season. I have learned the hard way. I saw my competitions as the end of a process. On the off-season I was lost. Now I know I have chosen a lifestyle and need to incorporate it into my everyday life, not just during prep time.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
All fitness/bodybuilding competitors are my fav. I know I have something in common with each and every one of them. We all share the same desire and dedication to our sport.
I have a tremendous respect for all in the industry. It isn't easy to prep for show. You have to make many sacrifices but it is truly the greatest feeling of all to show off your hard work onstage! If I had to name one person it would have to be Monica Brant-Peckham I had the opportunity to meet her this past summer, on my birthday!
