How Did You Get Started?
People ask me all the time how did I get started working out. I can't ever remember a time when I wasn't active. I started participating in sports when I entered the 9th grade; there I started running for my high school track team. I ran 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x1 and 4x4.
From there I continued running throughout college. After college I continued running thinking that I would start running 5ks. Well, that never happened. Instead I started working for a large gym chain in sunny San Diego. There I became a certified personal trainer and started truly working out with weights.
At the time I wasn't trying to add any size, but maintaining the muscle that I already had. Shortly after that, I moved to Slidell, LA, and started working at a locally owned health club. In Louisiana, competitions are a very big deal. After hearing people talk about them for a year, I thought seriously about entering my first competition.
With the help of Shelly, who was once part of the La Explosion Team and a dear friend of mine, we worked on getting me ready for my first show. Having been a sprinter all my life, it has been hard to slim down my legs and build my upper body. In the summer of 2003 I entered my first NPC show, the Louisiana state championship.
I earned a respectable 3rd place for only dieting 4 weeks. Since then, I have participated in several shows including Jr. Nationals and Nationals. I have not broken the top 5 yet, but I am still a baby in this industry learning new things everyday and from every show I attend. I know that someday soon all my hard work will pay off and I will be a pro figure competitor.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I like to workout most days. I like the way I feel when I work out.
My normal work out is as follow;
Day 1 - Shoulders (lateral movements); 30 mins Cardio
Day 2 - Chest; 30 mins Cardio
Day 3 - Back (row movements); 30 mins Cardio
Day 4 - Legs
Day 5 - Shoulders (front and rear delts); 30 mins Cardio
Day 6 - Back (overhead lat movements); 30 mins Cardio
Day 7 - Light Walking
30 min Cardio was either running, elliptical, or agility drills.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I follow the 60% carbs, 20% protein, and 20% fat, making the carbs whole wheat and other good carbs. I like to do high energy cardio, so I need the carbs to keep me going.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
I take a multivitamin for overall health. I also, just started taking the Amino Shooter from Champion nutrition, and seem to be helping tremendously; I have noticed good gains in my arms and shoulders.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I have always been an athlete, so fitness just comes naturally to me. I can't image what my life would be like without fitness.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I want to be become a respected and well know competitor. With that status, I would like to educate people on why it is so important to lead a healthy lifestyle. I also, want to be a motivator for these same people. Being on the cover of Oxygen would also be nice, of course!
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Be true to yourself. Do not do what everyone else is doing; do what is best for you.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
Jenny Lynn. The reason I like her is because she doesn't seem to exploit herself like some of the others figure competitor do. I feel she presents herself in good taste.
