How Did You Get Started?

My first year of college I began my life long journey. My father was obese and I decided I would not be that way. I started with some dumbbells and one day a buddy of mine told me about a gym off campus and away I went. No plan in my hand I just went and for the first few visits I felt sick and dizzy but it didn't stop my urge to continue. I was hooked. I found a Lee Labrada workout in an old M&F magazine and I was off. I never looked back.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

I have been training forever so I have done all types of splits and workouts. Depending on my goals at the time I try to tailor the training scheme around that. When I was younger I did 3 days on 1 day off. Now that I am a bit more mature and I don't want to just recover, but grow, I train a 3 day a week split with days off for cardio and some supplemental work.

I love 5-3-1. I feel good and I like percentages and numbers so I like figuring things out and mixing things up. I superset a lot of exercises because of my time schedule. Also, every day I perform a dynamic warm-up including stretching and foam rolling.

Day 1: Chest/Back/Abs
Day 2: Cardio Only
  • Run: 5 miles with sprint intervals
Day 3: Legs
Day 4: Cardio/Recovery
  • Run: slow 3-5 miles
Day 5: Shoulders/Arms
Day 6: Cardio Only
Day 7: Cardio Only
  • Run: slow 5-10 miles

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

I have been eating 5-6 meals a day forever. I have cut out most processed carbs. I have tried to get back to veggies and fruit for most carb sources, some beans, and a few grains. I eat almost the same thing all the time making it easy for me to plan.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

I love creatine, whey protein, and caffeine. Those I don't do without. I like many brands. The bonus is that most supplements taste great now. They used to be pretty awful.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

It is my life. I live it, love it, and share it with my family, friends, and students. It makes me feel great and look the way I always wanted to. I think the cool part is that I look around and see so many people that choose not to live healthfully and what they are missing out on.

What Motivates You To Follow A Healthy Lifestyle?

I am a competitor I love doing it. I don't make excuses. I am intrinsic in my training. I don't listen to music in the weight room or on a run. I like to listen to my body.

What Made You Want To Achieve Your Goals?

Just wanting to be bigger, better, faster, look like a super hero. I think those are just things that were in my head and I am so glad I was able to uncover them.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

Everything and anything. I love competition. I like challenging myself and pushing my limits. I will do more mountain biking, trail running, and need to find some new physical challenges.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

My advice to anyone starting is that you need to be patient if it is forever. Don't make excuses, find a way, and commit to what you really want. The clearer the picture is in your mind the easier it is to make the changes necessary to get to where you want.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

I always like Rich Gaspari, Lee Labrada, Tom Platz, Dorian, and of course (who cannot love the competitor that is) Arnold.
