How Did You Get Started?

My older brother Tim (who is a former JR. Mr. America winner, along with numerous other titles he has won), started me at the age of 15 years old. He made me workout in our garage for 1 year, through the COLD of winter (specially in Chicago, IL) to prove to him that I was serious about becoming a bodybuilder... only then did he start bringing me to QUADS GYM where he trained!

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?

The best routine for me was one of lower volume and high Intensity! I feel it gives you the best of both builds good quality muscle and burns fat at the same time!

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

The nutritional plan that works best for me is one that is only MODERATE in protein consumption (for health reasons I am not able to eat excessive amounts of protein). I eat ONLY real food, no powders and I try to get a different source of protein at each meal. I also incorporate plenty of healthy fats too! I feel this has really helped me make up for the lack of protein intake. Carbohydrates are kept moderate all year long as they tend to store quickly on me as fat, so I have to watch them carefully!

Dietary fat is not an enemy. In fact, when adequate amounts of good fats (unsaturated) are consumed, it can improve one's health and athletic performance.

Arrow Nutrition Plan:

I eat very "clean" 6 days per week, allowing myself 1 cheat day per week; this will consist of a couple bad meals on that day (e.g. pizza, fried chicken, French fries, etc...).

Typical Day Of "Good" Eating

    #1/ 6 Egg whites, 1 serving oatmeal, banana, coffee, vitamins
    #2/ 6 oz. chicken, baked potato, green beans

You can see I eat a very small amount of protein [200 grams] compared to 99% of the bodybuilders out their. This is due to my having an existing health problem from some 14 years previous. I have a very conservative approach nutritionally & with "supplements". I'm a big be liver in quality over quantity!

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

The supplements that have helped me the most are BCAAs and Fish oil. Again, these are staples in my everyday diet! As the saying goes, "I don't live to eat, but rather eat to LIVE!

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

The biggest reason I love BB SO much is that you don't have to rely on anyone! You can be successful if your willing to put in the time, energy & hard training sessions needed to achieve the results your after. Which are different for everyone!

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I plan to give the Master's nationals 1 more try next year provided everything is a go and my health (kidney) stays good! I truly believe that I have what it takes to go back and get my pro card after taking 2nd in '07 (2007 NPC Master's Nationals) by only 1 point! I will bring up some areas I feel need work and come back BIGGER & THICKER in 2008 and be in the same ripped condition I was in this year!

I'm also starting target my Personal Training Services toward Men & Women who compete and are serious about winning! It's taken me MANY years to study and learn the human body and know EXACTLY how it functions, what it needs in the way of nutrition, supplements and training. The guys & gals I've worked with all have made exceptional gains in QUALITY muscle and superior conditioning when it's been time to compete in their next competition! I truly feel that once I learn a persons body type and his or her eating & training regimens, I can correct the mistakes their making to help them improve their physiques quickly! What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Eat & train consistently year round! The sport is SO competitive these days, there really is no "off-season" anymore.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Since I'm a Master (meaning I'm older) I tend to lean towards the guys who carried QUALITY muscle mass, yet still had great Symmetry! First & foremost - Arnold!! Also guys Mark Dugdale, Porter Cottrell who was a very good Pro and always showed up in superb condition; Lee Labrada another man who packed a lot of muscle on a small frame, all quality & great condition; Kevin Levrone was another great champion! And of course my brother, Tim Smith who at 5 ft, 7 in. packs an incredible amount of QUALITY muscle mass on his small frame with spotless conditioning as well, and some of the CRAZIEST LEG DEVELOPMENT I've ever seen! I may be a little biased too, but he as legs that any competitive bodybuilder would envy!
