How Did You Get Started?
I've always been active and athletic. In my youth I played organized baseball, but also enjoyed other sports such as volleyball, basketball, and swimming. I enjoyed outdoor activities such as ocean kayaking, biking, river rafting, and water skiing. I lifted going back to my teens and 20s but in more recent years implemented a regimented and intense program with guidance from my stepson, Chris Belden. He happens to be a personal trainer as well as an accomplished bodybuilder himself. His support and knowledge was huge. We also worked out together when schedules permitted and that really helped me with my momentum and overall training.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Workout 5 days, rest 2 days. My daily routine consisted of the following:

I'd mix in abdominal work 2 or 3 times a week consisting of hanging leg raises and crunches for the most part. I completely eliminated cardio until it was time to start cutting. For cardio give me a stair stepper and my Nano.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I followed a low fat diet. While cutting, a balanced formula of low cal, protein, carbs, and fat really took me to a level of fitness I had never ever achieved. Again with the guidance of my stepson Chris, I was set to succeed as long as I remained disciplined....which I did. Believe it or not, I was also a smoker. Using the patch, I stopped smoking the same day I started cutting February 10, 2007 and haven't taken a drag since.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
While cutting I combined my diet with Universal Animal Cuts as my fat loss suplement. That product worked really well for me. I dropped my target of 30 lbs.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love the overall feeling that comes with bodybuilding that positively impacts my mind, body, and soul. It relieves the stresses of the day and leaves me feeling strong and fit. Of course at this level it frequently leaves you feeling sore.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I competed in the INBA California Natural on 6/30/07 in Los Angeles, California. It was a complete rush and so fun. It was my first ever competition and it left me with a feeling of exhilaration and great accomplishment just to participate. While I did not win, I definitely felt I belonged and carried my own. Turned out the men's masters division (age 40-49) was quite tough at this competition. It was a good feeling to be part of it, especially at age 49!
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Keep your momentum going, don't deviate, and stick to your diet. I found my sacrifices to maintain a regular work out schedule and stick to my diet really paid off. I never faltered with my diet and the work I put in and I believe it was evident when I competed.
Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?
I am a huge Jay Cutler fan. I've had the opportunity to meet him, take in his seminars, and follow his career. Now he's Mr. O! How about that! Of course I admire Vince Taylor as we're quite close in age. Of course Ronnie Coleman as well as Gustavo Badell. From a female figure/fitness standpoint, I am a fan of Ava Cowan!
