How Did You Get Started?

When I was 14 years old, a guy named Paul at my church wondered if I have ever worked out before and I told him no and he asked if I would like to and I said I'd think about it and get back to him. Well I didn't get back to him and I forgot about it for the time being. In fact it was a year before he came up to me again and asked if I started lifting since the last time he asked me, and I told him no, he asked if I would like to lift with him one time and I told him sure, why not.

After a week of being extremely sore after just 1 chest workout, I was hooked. If it wasn't for him to give me a second invitation to the iron game, I'm not sure what I'd be doing right now; he changed my life, for the better, thanks Paul. So I guess I started weightlifting at age 15 and lifted on and off for 2 years with track and field, which is why, I couldn't see the gains I wanted.

So at age 17 I subscribed to muscle magazines (M&F and Flex) and read many Bodybuilding.com articles on how to really add lean muscle and so I did. I overcame my nerves of competing in a natural bodybuilding show and did my first show (NGA Potomac Cup in July of '07) and won the men's novice lightweight. Winning the men's novice lightweight division in my first bodybuilding contest was like a dream come true and that's what made me work even harder to achieve even better results and strive to meet my true potential.

In June '08 I competed in my 2nd show, the NGA Annapolis contest and placed 3rd in the men's open lightweight. Finally, my most recent contest was the same one I debuted at, the 2008 Potomac Cup and placed 1st in the men's open lightweight division again feeling so great about my accomplishment.

I plan on returning to the stage in 2010 sometime after adding even more quality mass to my frame and sculpting it with similar conditioning as before if not better.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

Over the last year and a half I learned that supplements are really good at giving you the edge in your physique goals, but they should literally be 'supplementing' your food intake which is where the majority of a person's gains will come from. Here is a list of the supplements that I have tried and found to be most effective for me.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love bodybuilding for many reasons but the main reason is because it is fun. It is almost like a game for me. For example, when bulking up you must determine how many extra calories you need to fuel growth or when cutting down, how long I should do cardio based on how I look, how should I use supplements to give me an edge, when to lift.

I mean it is so fun to see how all the variables must be utilized and manipulated to produce the best results for my body. As for working out, the pump is almost like a euphoria that you can get no where else and it makes you feel like you have control of your body and you can work in harmony with it to achieve your goals.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

Right now I am taking a year off from bodybuilding competition in order to add 15-20lbs of lean muscle mass. I plan on competing again in 2010 sometime. Train hard and strive to be a champ for life.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

Make sure you are tan enough before stepping onstage; I learned this the hard way by placing 3rd instead of 1st at one of my contests. Also practice posing; it can make you look 10-20lbs heavier if you know how to execute poses correctly. This will in-turn help you to utilize the illusion effect which can make the guy, who is 10lbs heavier than you, standing next to you look 10lbs lighter than you.

Train hard but smart. To remain in this game, you need to limit the amount of injuries and really focus on the target muscle. Also, use your successes to inspire others because when people recognize your accomplishments they can then use them as templates to follow thus striving for their own goals, whether it is physique-related or some other aspect.
