How Did You Get Started?
I got started weight training when I was a freshman in high school. I lifted for football. I did all kinds of strength training. From lifting I was able to improve and play 2 years of varsity on both sides of the ball. I remember my first 1 rep max on the bench was 150 lbs. when I was a freshman.
I was a chubby kid for most of my high school career. My junior year I weighed about 235 pounds. Now I dropped to 198 and was able to keep all my muscle. My 1 rep max on the bench press now is 405. Now I bodybuild instead of strength training since I finished football.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
My best workout plan is a five day a week program.
When I workout I focus on variation. I change my routine weekly for each bodypart not allowing any parts to get used to lifting. This gets me sore a lot but that means it's working. I like to keep my workouts intense with light weight and higher reps leading to heavy weight and lower reps otherwise known as pyramid sets.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
My diet isn't very strict. I mostly eat lean meats such as grilled chicken and fish. I stay away from junkfood and sugar. The only carbs I like to eat are complex carbs found in oatmeal and whole wheat products. Most of my carbs are in the earlier parts of the day and towards the end of the day most of my meals are much higher in protien than carbs. I have six small meals a day so my metabolism can run all day long. I always make sure I balance my protien so that is significantly higher than my carbs.
Basically don't eat sugary foods and fried foods. Eat lean meats, drink water and diet soda. Stay away from gatorade unless its right after you lift or run to help rehydrate your body. Don't suck down gatorate all day and with your meals.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
My favorite supplements to use are Ultra whey protien, Lipo 6 and Amped by Met-Rx. Amped gets me going right away at the gym. It helps give me energy and stay focused. Also it gives me a tremendous pump and alot of vascularity so when your in front of that mirror you have a good reason to keep lifting.
It also has glutamine in it which helps you retain your muscle mass and recovery. I like Lipo 6 because it keeps me tight. I helps me burn off the fat without having to do a whole lot of cardio. The ultra whey protein is very nice. It keeps me nice and lean.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love bodybuilding because it gives me a lot of self confidence and it keeps me out of trouble. Bodybuilding is fun to me; I love to lift and I love to be at the gym.
It also keeps your mind off of other things like drugs and alcohol. Sure you may be stupid and do it once in a while, no one is perfect, but bodybuilding gives you a reason not to because it will have negative affects on all the hard work you put into your body.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I just plan to keep working out and staying healthy. Hopefully I continue to get bigger and keep working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Don't quit. Don't look at dudes that are huge and say damn I'll never look like that and resort to using steriods. Believe me I have had a few times where I almost resorted to using them but I thought of all the negative aspects of using them and put it into perspective that I am only 17 and most of these huge guys are over 20. Just remember you get out of bodybuilding what you put into it. The more time your at the gym, the better results you will have.
