How Did You Get Started?
I was always a decent sized kid throughout high school playing football and running track to stay in shape and would always hear the classic comments about having big arms and stuff. I actually got started bodybuilding when I saw a few of the guys in the gym at my school, Bryant University, training for an upcoming competition. This got me interested so I went to the competition and was fascinated with it so I decided I would start dieting and training for next years competition, which I competed in and did very well. It was the USBF New England Natural Bodybuilding, Figure, and Fitness Competition and I placed 1st in the teenage division and 4th in the open middleweight category.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I never stick to a specific workout plan and believe in constantly switching it up to shock the body and have more enjoyable workouts. It all depends on how I feel that day and go about picking body parts like that. But if I had to layout a week it would look like this:
Tuesday- Biceps and Triceps
Wednesday- Shoulders and Traps
Saturday- Make-Up day or Rest
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
I have always been a firm believer in following what works best for you in terms of dieting. Following planned out diets from magazines and web sites is fine, but it is important to modify it to fit your body type and system. I concentrate on getting adequate protein with every meal and enough but not too much carbs to keep me energized through workouts. I try and stay lean throughout the year so I don't usually go through loading phases.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Protein shakes are a bodybuilder's best friend and are essential to any diet. The only other supplement I have experimented with is NO Xplode. From the very first workout on it I was hooked and haven't had the desire to try anything else.
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love bodybuilding because of the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment it gives me. It's a way of setting myself apart from other people because as most people don't understand bodybuilder's workouts don't just end in the gym but continue through the entire day and it takes more hard work and dedication to train and diet hard for 12 solid weeks to prepare for a competition than most would imagine.
It's nice when you could walk into a room and have people, who don't know you, complement you, but it's the things people don't understand about the sport and the dedication it takes that makes me proud of what I've accomplished. I fully realized my love for bodybuilding when I stood on stage in front of 600 people and received my trophies that symbolize not just one day of posing on a stage but a full year of dedication.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I plan to compete in another competition within the next year seeing as though I did so well at my first one. Taking the teen division was the ultimate goal for me in training, but taking 4th place out of 17 men who were much older and experienced than me helped in making up my mind to compete again and strive for bigger goals.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
The one tip I would give other bodybuilders is to go by what works for you and your body. When starting out its fine to follow sample workouts and diets, but when it comes down to it everyone reacts differently to varying kinds and amounts of food or workout schedules. So I would say just make note of the things that give you the best gains and go from there.
