How Did You Get Started?
When I was a young kid growing up I was very active I was either out side building tree houses in the woods or playing what ever sport was in season for me. Whatever I was doing during that time I would put 100% of my effort into the activity. I was the type of kid who would get a goal or idea in my mind and let it be in my thought process 24/7, and do what ever it takes to achieve it. My father got me into playing football, and signed me up to play going into the 4th grade. During that time football was my passion I loved every second of it.
As I got older I started to experiment with weights for football. Once I started to train with weights I was hooked. I would only train for strength - I wanted to be the strongest kid in my school; it paid off by the time I graduated I could bench press 415 lbs. for one solid rep. Along the way I started to focus on building my muscles instead of strength.
I first was introduced to bodybuilding by the book "The education of a bodybuilder" by Arnold Schwarzenegger. After I looked through the book and read it I fell in love with bodybuilding. I wanted to attain a physique like Arnold... I remember staying up late at all hours of the night looking at the pictures over and over. And thinking to myself, I want to look like that one day and I'll do whatever it takes to get there.
What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
I stick to the basic exercises; I love to do compound movements such as Squats, deadlifts, Bench presses ect. I train each set to failure with maximum intensity. My current training split is:
Current Training Split:
Tues: Chest, Abs
Thur: Back, Hamstrings
Fri: Shoulders, Calves
Sat: Biceps, Triceps, Abs
I feel this provides a great base workout that allows me enough time to recover before the next muscle is worked. I'm a firm believer that overtraining can hinder your gains so I believe this to be the best overall training split.
What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?
During the off-season I eat whatever whenever I want. I try to eat every two to three hours; eating mainly whole food from the time I wake up till the time I go to sleep. My body has a high metabolism so I am able to eat dirty and still stay in pretty lean condition.
During contest preparation my diet only consists of egg whites, Chicken, Oats, and leafy greens. I will eat 6 to 8 meals a day and cycle my carbohydrates so that they will decrease in a staggered fashion, as I get closer to the contest. I would like to thank Bobby Sepesy for his constant help especially with my diet. He is a former Mr. Pittsburgh and amazing bodybuilder in the NPC.
What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Why do you love Bodybuilding?
I love bodybuilding because it is a sport that depends entirely upon you as an individual. You are your own man and you will only get what you put into it. Also it is a sport that is very odd and different to most people, which makes it motivating for me. It's something that most people couldn't do because it's a 24/7 sport that takes all of your dedication.
What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
My future bodybuilding plans are to earn my Natural Pro card within the next few years and compete in natural pro shows. I would like to get involved with modeling, I feel that I have a positive look for bodybuilding and I hope to promote the sport as long as I can. I would like to go into the NPC and hopefully someday be sponsored helping the companies that helped me along the way.
What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Always put God first in any goal you would like to achieve and do what ever it takes to get there. Never let other people change your ways and put a negative influence on your bodybuilding goals. Always remember it's your life and your goals, achieve them by any means necessary.
