Teen Bodybuilder of the Week: Steven Di Giovanni

Teen Bodybuilder of the Week: Steven Di Giovanni! - Pics and info and more!

How Did You Get Started?

I initially started weight training to get into a better state of physical fitness. At the time I was 15 and quite overweight. When I saw the results keep coming it was like a train with no brakes.

From there I got into reading bodybuilding magazines, from magazines to pro shows and from there, the Olympia battle tapes... now I compete myself. It just constantly evolves as I get consumed into the world of bodybuilding more and more!

What Nutrition Plan Has Worked Best For You?

The best nutrition plan consisted of me having a 250g meat + 1cup (rice/potato/pasta) 3 times in the middle of the day. Breakfast would be 10 egg whites, 1 cup oats + a fruit. Midmorning, as well as before sleeping would be a shake in water.

Therefore the order is: Breakfast -> Midmorning snack -> Meal 1 -> Meal 2 -> Meal 3 -> pre-bed snack every 2-1/2 hours I eat, without fail. AND DRINK WATER!

I also add 80g simple carbs to one of the MEALS if it is PRE-TRAINING, and my post training meal has its carbs replaced by 2 cups of white rice.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?

Protein, Creatine, Tribulus, HMB, Arginine-Nitric Oxide

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love this sport because you can't cheat through it. All your hard work is proportional to your results and you can't cut corners and lie or be lazy because your only fooling yourself. It's a prime example of what any human being can accomplish with the proper dedication, motivation and passion. Like it says in Ronnie Coleman's "The Cost Of Redemption." IF YOU DO WHAT YOU ALWAYS DID, YOU'LL GET WHAT YOU ALWAYS GOT (banner inside the Metroflex gym).

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

To compete in the provincial championships and any other contest open to junior category participants. I want to fill up my shelf with as many medals and prizes before I'm 21, then I'll pick and choose contests each year just for the sake of competing for fun. I don't plan to make a career out of this, due to the difficulty of the financial aspect, however I'd love to keep doing it as a hobby for the rest of my life.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

To any other bodybuilder, aspiring to compete, or even just get results for their own personal satisfaction... don't let stupid things get you down, because in this business (bodybuilding) there is a tremendous deal of jealousy and backstabbing.

People will always try and bring you down and make you feel inferior, so you will have to overcome other obstacles besides a certain weight on bench press, if you know what I mean. If you can overcome that in this business and keep training no matter what, you will go very far!

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Jay Cutler and his trainer Chris Aceto (two of the most genuine & good people in the business). My trainer and friend (national competitor) Leo Di Fruscia. Some others who I think are great: Gustavo Badell, Mark Dugdale, Dexter Jackson, Lee Priest, Darrem Charles, Melvin Anthony, Shawn Ray, Flex Wheeler, Paul Dillet, Johnny Jackson and the "freakazoid" Markus Ruhl... is that enough!? Ha ha!
