Teen Bodybuilder of the Week: Andy Harnden

Teen Bodybuilder of the Week: Andy Harnden! - Pics and info and more!

How Did You Get Started?

I was always really lean my whole life, and in my teens I started basically worshiping Arnold Schwarzenegger. Then, one day at my gym, I saw a sign up sheet for a body building competition with the INBF (International Natural Bodybuilding Federation). I figured I should try it out, so I could get some pay off for all the work outs, and have another reason to go to the gym every day. I took 4th in my first competition, and I've done 3 competitions total, with my best one being 2nd place. I started getting my friends into bodybuilding, and now I just love the sport, and talk highly of it to everybody.

Why do you love Bodybuilding?

I love bodybuilding because it requires just as much (or more) hard work and determination as any other sport. And along the way you get a great looking, healthy body, and learn about self discipline. Also, it is sort of a rare sport to be involved in, everyone I know asks me about competitions, and other details of bodybuilding, every day. They are so interested, and think it's great that I'm involved in such a unique sport. I just love being part of a sport that is different, and one that takes guts. I mean not everyone is willing to get on stage in a posing suit in front of hundreds of people. Am I right?

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?

I will be leaving for the U.S. Air Force soon, so I will hopefully continue my bodybuilding while I'm in, since the Air Force has their own bodybuilding competitions. I plan on being a part of this sport till I'm pretty old. I would love to compete in my spare time in the Masters Division or something, or at least till I'm in my 30's.

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?

If I could give a tip to other bodybuilders, I would tell them to always try to make their work outs as intense as possible. If that means getting a good work out partner, then so be it. There's really nothing quiet like a hard core work out, one where you feed off the other people's energy in the gym.

And if there's a day when you just feel too "tired" or "bummed" and you think about skipping the gym, just think of how you would feel if you were on stage with imperfections that could have been avoided by just showing up when you didn't feel like it.

Who Are Your Favorite Bodybuilders?

Frank McGrath, Lee Priest, Bob Cicherillo, Arnold & Franco, Evan Centopani, and Shane Giese.
