First, let me introduce myself. My name is Robb Dorf. I grew up in Sylvania, Ohio, and started long-distance running at age 12. I was humbled very early on, because in high school, I competed against two of America’s greatest distance runners, Bob Kennedy and Todd Williams. After one year at Bowling Green State University, I transferred to Arizona State, and ran all four years there, competing in both track and cross-country. I have a personal best time of 32:46 for 10 kilometers. I graduated in 1991 with a BS in Exercise Physiology. Immediately following graduation, I moved to Southern California, where I immersed myself into the sport of duathlon. During that time, I worked at PR*Bar, a nutrition bar company that was at the forefront of the 40.30.30 nutrition revolution. In 1997, I qualified for the World Duathlon Championships for men, ages 25-29. Unfortunately, I was really burned out from over 17 years of racing and training, and quietly disappeared from the scene, never competing for the United States. One year later, I completely blew my left knee out from over-training for a marathon, and was forced to take up walking and yoga. I also moved to Orange County to get away from the run-bike-swim scene of San Diego. During that time, I became very disgruntled with the nutrition industry, primarily nutrition bar companies. Nutrition bars were not only a staple in every almost athlete’s regime, they were becoming mainstream. Everyone was eating them. Simply put, most bars are nothing more than a candy bar with protein powder added.
